WTB-Electric Sitar

I've decided I need an electric sitar... :) From what I've heard Jerry jones is the way to go, but I could be interested in others as well.. Let me know if you've got one, or even have any experience and opinions with one. I've been playing "real" sitar for about 8 years, and i don't expect it to be comparable, I just want one for what it is... Possible trades too...

I have a brand-new (and can honestly say) unused one. It's a recent '60's-era Coral copy. I'll be happy to post some pics if you're interested.

Turn off your mind, relax

and float down stream

It is not dying

It is not dying

Lay down all thought

Surrender to the void

It is shining

It is shining

That you may see

The meaning of within

It is being

It is being

It is truly new. I've played "Paint It Black", "Do It Again", "Listen (To the Flower People)" and a few others on it, and actually played most of Angus and Malcolm's "Back In Black" album, but that's about it. Not a lot of time to devote to it, honestly!

Very decent Gotoh tuners (Vintage, just like the Fender stuff), Lipstick trio and a real Gotoh-branded Sitar bridge.

If interested, it comes with adjust wrench, manual and I can probably scare up a Gibson gigbag for it (also new).

Aside from the stock, catalog photo, I've never gotten a good look at those Rogues.

They did a nice job for a very reasonable price.

Regarding the Line 6- Steve Howe replaced his Coral (and 12 string, etc.) with the Variax for the last few Yes and Asia tours. It gets the sounds, but the visual vibe is seriously lacking!

proxmax- that's an interesting builder, thanks for the link.. I wonder how that pickup sounds, it looks like it's just a standard single coil guitar pickup with 6 poles, but sitars have 7 (main) strings that are unevenly spaced, I wonder how "evenly" it picks up the strings. Interesting take on a sitar though, thanks for the link..

For the guys who mentioned the variax, it's just not really what I'm looking for...

Cmatthes - I replied to your pm...

thanks guys, so far i'm still looking...

Line 6 Variax... :)

I was gonna suggest that, supposedly the Sitar patch is great.

+1 on the Variax. The student intern for one of my classes at the NGW this summer had one and I scoffed-

Until I played it. Totally awesome, I hate to admit.

If you need a wide variety of instruments on tap at all times you could do a lot worse.

The sitar setting played with slide is a ton of fun.

Damn, thanks for that post BadgerDave - I always forget about Wildwood, I actually just live about 20 minutes from there.. I'll go tomorrow and play it and see what I think... I'll either give a review or come home with it if anybody's interested.. Thanks again!

I am thinking of selling it - for far less than they sell for new, even though it is essentially new. I'm thinking a very "HFC-friendly" price...

Update - I ended up buying that Italia electric sitar from Wildwood.. I haven't had a whole lot of time to play it, but one thing I've noticed that disappoints me a little is the lack of sympathetic vibrations or overtones from the sympathetic strings.. They hardly resonate when playing the main strings (and yes, they're in tune).. There are a few things I can think of to try to help remedy this, when I get more time I'll try to... otherwise I'm pretty happy with it - the build quality seems pretty good, and it'll definitely bring some interesting sounds to the table, I think..

If anybody is interested in a more in depth review, just give me a few more days and pm me..

Thanks for all the comments, I appreciate them, especially BadgerDave for the heads up at Wildwood!!
