Wiring Help Needed SOLVED!!

Question

So, I decided not to go with the GFS. Maybe I didn't get it wired correctly but it just didn't produce the sound I wanted, so I got a Fender Atomic to put in it.

I got this tele (import) that has just a humbucker with a 3 way switch. How can I wire the US Fender Atomic pickup to the 3 way switch like the original humbucker was? Help appreciated.

Fender is 4 wires, stock has 2 (white and red) not counting the bare one.

The 3 way switch works as Pos 1 (bridge half) Pos 2 (full humbucker) Pos 3 (neck half)

Original wiring:

Looking at Fender color codes it says:

Adjustable Pole Slug Pole

Red-(start A) Black(finish B ) South Green+(start C) White (finish D) North

Another thought I had was just bypassing the 3 way and going straight to the Volume but I wanted to get it working like it's supposed to before I went that way even though, to me that's a simpler option.

I'm assuming the Red and White Squier Pickup wires would correspond to the Red and white on the Fender pickup although I could be wrong.

What would I do with the black and green then? Or am I way off?

#2 of Submariner's monthly brainteaser series.

Well connect black and green and stick it to ground though.

Whatever north and south is to be interpreted or whatever position 1 or 3 is on the switch, red and white are par or mixed.

Too funny. After I say "Fuck It", Jeff Krause from Fender writes me and tells me exactly where I'm messed up and how to wire it correctly.

Here was the answer to my problem:

Hello,

Thanks for writing in. The Avril pickup is not a regular 2-wire pickup. Check the attached wiring diagram, and you’ll see what I mean. The ground wire from the pickup is the negative side of the pickup coils, the red wire would be the positive side of the coils, and the white wire is actually the junction of the 2 coils (the coils are joined inside the pickup, and a separate wire is run out so it can be used for coil-switching options). If you’re using a Fender humbucking , you would solder the green and red wires together, and this would become the Avril’s white wire. The Atomic’s white wire would become the Avril’s red wire. The only thing remaining would be to run the Atomic’s black wire and bare wire to ground (the volume pot casing). There’s another way to do it, but on a single pickup guitar you’re not worried about polarity, so this should be fine. I hope this will help you out.

Best Regards,

Jeff Krause
