kevinbower1959 Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Hey guys,There was a thread on here a few months ago which showed how to rewire a 2 x Vol/1 x Tone guitar (Standard, Special etc) so that the tone pot only worked on the neck pickup. I've looked everywhere but can't find it - would any kind soul point me in the right direction please? Thanks in advance, best wishes
kevinbower1959 Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 Thanks for that Vic - but it wasn't what I was looking for. That link just shows standard wiring configs, but thanks anyway.
veatch Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Here's what yer lookin' for, but it's for a left handed guitar, so the pots will turn backwards. Let me know if you need me to re-do this as a righty. Overall, the operation is pretty simple: You will move the lead from the cap to go to the neck pup instead of from the output. Note the pots won't need to be linear and such - that was due to the left handed guitar thingy...
kevinbower1959 Posted June 18, 2011 Author Posted June 18, 2011 Veatch, that's really kind of you, and that shows me exactly what I needed. Thanks very much bud, I appreciate it.Best wishes
veatch Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 np Sounds like you already have this well under control, but just in case, figured i'd put these out there. I took a peek inside an Artist, which i believe is wired the same as the Standard, and i noticed the cap is soldered to ground. So what i said above about moving the cap lead is a little off. Here's a more accurate view of the standard VVT layout in the Hamers i have (should be like yer Standard...) It's still simple - move (actually, replace as the wires will probably be too short) the wires in blue below: The other wiring diagram will work as well, but you'd have to make more changes to get there. Hope that helps.
dgstandard Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 This is an example of a thread that makes me keep coming back. Thank you HFC.

It's very, very cool of you to make such an effort, and it's genuinely appreciated. Did the mod and it works a treat. The SH5 Custom at the bridge still rips, but now (with the tone pot rolled back a few notches) I have exactly the kinda occasional smooth solo cream I was after. The SH1 '59 PAF at the neck was just a little too bright, but now sounds exactly right. Thanks again and best wishes. You're really top guys
kevinbower1959 Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 Thanks to you, too, Armitage!! The help's been very much appreciated.
