After much internal debate on how to significantly reduce my collection and which guitars to let go, I have decided to sell 2 Explorer/Standard shaped guitars, beginning with this incredible Shishkov Ultimate #0011. My Momose Korina MEX will be going up next. I'm the 2nd owner and can't find a mark on it. It has a pretty chunky neck (0.95" at the first fret, 0.98" at the 12th) and only weighs 7.6 pounds. I don't think I need to pour out any accolades here. Everyone here is familiar. SOLD - $5,500 shipped8 points

I had a brand spankin' new Duotone in '96 that I had to sell in Nov. 2010 to get Christmas presents for the brood. Now, fourteen November's later, I'm back in the game! Huge price drop on this Duotone on Reverb got me this one, which arrived today. It's in good condition, with a few cosmetic issues, but it is 30 yrs old. Minor disappointment on a finish chip near the nut that wasn't disclosed, or a picture shown. Honestly for the price I'd bought it anyway. I always used my old one with a wound G string. This one came the same way. Is that still common practice or could I put a regular electric set of 10s on it and still get a good acoustic sound? I don't remember if I ever tried electric strings on the old one.6 points

I split a 1000 model with my son for gigs and practice. Compared it to the EV similar to it and there certainly was not an $800.00 difference in sounds between the two. Great practice PA!!3 points

Dudes! This is a steal! I bought one on a recommendation here and liked it so much I bought a second one. I can’t justify a third, but pleeeeease pull the trigger if you’re in the market! https://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid?source=3TPBA1BD&dtm_em=92a4298f76e1d0bbada32349dbdf2f58&optid=10000047706692 points

Hello, I would like to find a Newport Pro with either flame or birdseye maple top instead of a spruce top. I already have a really nice Newport Pro with the spruce top and have attached a couple of photos of that guitar. So, if anyone here on the HFC has one tucked away and might be considering parting with it, I would appreciate it if you would reach out to me.... Thanks in advance and thanks also to Gabe who pointed out some misconceptions, of the different models, on my part... Tim.1 point

I am sure I have mentioned this in the past. I am a fan of the extra low capacitance cables......Less attenuation of highs.....As they say, you can always cut highs but it is hard to add them back if there is a muddy signal. A high end guitar player (unlike me) told me a long time ago, they were like the proverbial removing the blanket over your speakers. As in the past BTPA.com has holiday sales, now 20% off, with cables custom made to your order. For myself, I like the "high def". Choice of connectors, including "silent". Like braided covers? Many choices. Their prices are much lower than such as Mogami and (IMO) are comparable in quality. Bump your order up to $100 and select free shipping too. (Usually their shipping is fairly high). OTOH, Jimi got pretty good tone from high capacitance coil cords........1 point

Good thing I can’t afford it, I would have to play it out from time to time and would not stay mint.1 point

They look good, and I'd love to try one sometime. Fernando Von Arb rocked his Kahler equipped Scarab, and sounded great/looked cool doing it. ETA: I don't understand all the hate either, unless its carving up a vintage axe to install one... That's dumb. But it seems to be almost a universal thing.1 point

Usually WD would have stuff like that, but.... https://www.wdmusic.com/wd-music-products-tailpiece-for-gibson-flying-v-style-guitars-details.html "This tailpiece is not an exact fit for original Gibson® guitars" Would it be so difficult for them to list what the hell it does fit then? Wtf? :facepalm:1 point

I examined it tonight watching Dune Prophecy and it is a second tone knob that affects all three Pickups. Wow, what a difference in sound as it was nearly fully engaged killing the highs.1 point

If Kirk Hammett or Joe Bonamassa buy any of those guitars they will get played.1 point

Bump # 9... Here's a update that might be of interest to some of you who have chimed in on my quest for a maple topped Newport Pro. I, through my search for the guitar, came across the fellow who acquired the Newport that burningyen mentioned in his post. The guitar that pirateflynn once owned ended up here in the NW. The guy has since passed it along to someone else and from there, well, who knows.... Anyway, I just thought I'd pass along the history of that particular Newport Pro.... Here's a photo of the guitar and so, if anyone here might know its current location, maybe you could reach out as it is almost exactly what I had in my mind... Thanks again, Tim.1 point

Alrighty, here's a quick rundown on this beauty - 18 years old as of last week! Measurements: Nut width is confirmed at 1.675". Neck depth at 1st fret - 0.875". Neck depth at 12th fret - 0.899". I guess I would call the neck profile a flat 'D' shape. Measured fretboard radius looks to be 14". Not chunky like my 50's LP, but comfortable to play and easy to get around. Body construction: Carved solid Mahogany back with 2 piece solid carved quilted Maple top, Jazzburst finish. Mahogany neck. Ebony fretboard with single Victory chevron at 12th fret. Bone nut. Quilted Maple headstock veneer with pearl logo. Italian Ivoroid binding with BWB purfling outline the body, fretboard and headstock. Ivoroid binding only on F holes Hardware: Seymour Duncan 'Seth Lover' pickups neck & bridge. TonePros bridge and tailpiece. Schaller Imperial tuning machines. Original hardshell case. 'Extras': This guitar was the grand prize for a contest sponsored by a teaching website, workshoplive.com, that I was lucky enough to win in early 2006. I could pick any guitar in the Hamer line up and work with Jol to customize as I desired. That brought about the specs above. I also flew out to New Hartford for a tour of the facilities and receive the guitar from Jol, Frank, and the entire crew. very cool experience! To sweeten the pot, Jol and team added a couple nice extras to the guitar to make it unique. Those extras included: Pickup coil split via push/pull tone pot. Back has full body carve like the front (Newports traditionally have a flat back). Another nice plus is the electronics access door in the back with matching Mahogany cover plate (see pics). I've never needed to use it as everything inside is original and untouched, but it is a cool conversation piece, nonetheless. The only change are the control knobs. The tone knob was starting to crack, so I replaced both of them with PRS lampshade knobs. The originals are in the case. Here are a few more pics of the details. It's really a killer instrument that can go from George Benson to George Lynch with no problem.1 point
