St. Paul Brian Adams/ Def Leppard Show
cmatthes replied to BTMN's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Elduave is hitting the one this Friday at Cal Ripken Stadium in MD. I don't think I'm able to make it, but am still trying to scare something up. I talked to a guy who was at the Lancaster, PA show last week, and he said it was PHENOMENAL. -
Even more importantly - did he wash his hands first? As always, great pix - Thanks, Gene!

"Mini Matthai", indeed! Too F'in funny. I was always a Harrison fan, but think that Jeff Lynne ELO'd him (and the Wilburys) a little too much. Love his slide playing - very emotive. Ron said that one of the highlights at the concert for George was when it was getting late at the Albert Hall and his little girl was crying a little bit (after a long day and a longer evening), McCartney stopped in his tracks, came over to talk to her and made sure that she got a little treat. Oh yeah, seeing and playing with all those legends was also pretty okay!

It does have a Monaco neck joint. Check the infamous "shelf"!

Agreed - great show, and always good to see another HFC'er out there. Good to see ya again, Arnie! Mike Campbell was slouched in a chair talking on his cell phone at the next table, and I swear that I didn't recognize him at first. He's sporting dreads now, quite a different look for him. The Hbreakers were absolutely ON, and Mike Campbell pulled out a 1/2 size Verdiglo (Greenburst) Rick mando that looked like a mini 330 (with Ac'cent vibrato too!). Very neat stuff. The Crowes were also fantastic, although Chris was fairly quiet - more Faces-era Rod dancing/prancing than singing. They are definitely doing more of a "jam" feel to things, but it was great all around. Lots of amazing slide work was a bonus. Looking forward to catching the show again in Late July when they roll through Merriweather Post. Check it out if you get the chance!

F/S: Hamer Chap Custom 1-Off

Jack: This one is worth posting a picture for the folks who have registered in the last month or so. We've had at least 40 new names added, so one of them might be intrigued. That IS a really cool (and rare) guitar. -
Our own Cheap Chick makes the DC CityPaper!
cmatthes replied to cmatthes's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Pam, Look a couple hours south for now... You'll find him there! -
I was flipping through the new CityPaper (DC) this afternoon, checking out the upcoming shows and there was a blurb on Lez Zeppelin (coming to the State theatre in Falls Church, VA on the 16th). The article mentions the "new" phenomenon of talented all-female tribute bands, "Witness Cheap Chick and AC/DShe...". Hey - it's a mention, right?! ANY press is good press. Just thought I'd share.
-
Thanks, Mike. I was shooting some shop pics for the Rocketeria site. I probably should have removed that hang tag though, but figured that the new owner should have that privilege!
-
The coolest one I've had the pleasure to check out lately. Well, certainly ONE of them!!

Alright Rockford!! Are you ready??

Oh, you SO have to keep me in the loop on this one, sis... -
Serial: Tell me that isn't Roy Buchanan's old Standard!?! Whoah...
-
I just saw/held/photographed one of the more incredible Standards I've ever seen today. No pics yet, and I won't be the one to post 'em. Day-yum. That's all I'm sayin'. Martin: Serial's #0017 is an all-around stunner. Plays like a top-notch vintage guitar should and is just the $#!+. I'm partial to his blueburst #0096 though...
-
Oops! Sorry, Ken. Maybe I should have said "Goldtop" Duotone!
-
Agreed about Dave's. Always had great experience buying from them, sometimes sight unseen. Fair with trades and honest guys. I bought a P-90 Duotone from them recently and it was even better in person than I expected.
-
Jason: Congrats! It is great to hear that ANY guitar inspires you to play more. Make it a beauty like that and you've aced it. That's one I wish I'd gotten to see before it shipped out to you!

1981 Hamer graphic Special w/OHSC

(Please God, don't let it be "Beavith"!!) -
QOTSA are on SNL this weekend. If he breaks out one of those, the going price could be a lock for a little while longer!

In the words of Elduave to Ted... "Take it easy on me..." Actually, LRB is not MY "guilty pleasure", but that cracks me up every time I hear it. I'm more apt to admit to dropping cheezy 70s pop stuff in every now and then (Bay City Rollers, Stevie Wonder, ABBA, etc.), but that's more for kicks and to make my lovely wife happy. Every now and then, some real 70s funk/disco comes on VH-1 Classics and it KILLS me. Still think that Hot Chocolate's "Every 1's a Winner" has an unbelievable riff!

Where to rock stars get their clothes?
cmatthes replied to Abaco's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
We went with a "Favorite Foods" theme last weekend. Carlos - Vintage Krispy Kreme t-shirt Elduave - Cool-assed Wonka Bar t-shirt Me - Natty Boh t-shirt (beer is like food, right?) Not sure if our drummer, DA, got the band memo - he wore a vintage Intellivision shirt with the "running man" icon. Very few people got that, but we had a few astute people out there... Try www.tshirtsthatsuck.com - always a few gems there! Edited to add that we don't think we're rock stars, by the way. -
"Tobeeeeeeeee!!! I am the ghost of Mary James..... DO NOT REFINISH MY BASS!!!!!!!!
-
Good LORD, NO!!! Of course, it's yours, so do whatever makes you happy. Just because I wouldn't do it, or because 75%, 80%, 99.9% of the HFC would tell you not to, shouldn't alter your decision. But you'd be crazy to change that finish! (ha ha!!)
-
Sorry! I thought you were looking for top-only options! You will not go wrong with a Newport in pretty much ANY color.
-
Sadly, and VERY Sadly indeed, they are no longer doing sparkle finishes nor finishes with sparkle in them. No pearls either, from what I've heard - directly from the source... That may change, but that's the scoop. The good news is that it helps narrow down your choices!
-
I picked up a GORGEOUS '91 that was custom ordered (has the guy's signature underneath the finish on the headstock!), Gold Floyd, unbound ebony board/dots, Unbelievable Ultimate top on what was then '59 burst (similar to the "Cognac Burst") over a cherry back. Minty, and only $600 out the door. Picked up a Black '79 Standard w/crowns at the same place for under $500 shortly afterwards, so I guess that wasn't that great of a deal, eh?! Those are really great guitars.
