  6. I had a 3 pickup Eclipse for a while. It also had 3 mini-toggles that controlled series, parallel, and I can't remember what else. Interesting guitar, but a little complicated. My guitar instructor has it now, and really digs it.
  7. My most "dramatic transformation" from a pickup swap of all time: I took an XT Quilt top model and put Duncan 59s in it. That was my first guitar that I bought when I started playing again about 4 years ago, and I still think it sounds great (many Hamer USA models followed). I'll never sell it. Other than that, my favorite swap is likely the Wolfetone Dr Vintage in my Artist Custom. Love the tone on that one.
  8. I tend to swap pickups a lot. The Monaco Elite received WCRs, and both Artists (Custom and Korina) received Wolfetones. I won't touch the Melancon; the TV Jones do exactly what I want them to in that guitar. Also, the stock Duncans seem fine in the Phantom, so far. I'm still considering a swap for the DDs in the Tally, though I've been talking about that awhile and I might just let it be.
  9. I'm in the process of having a local builder put together a Tele style guitar for me, and I'm really considering putting 11s on it. I mentioned in another thread that I have 13s on a Hagstrom Viking, and that guitar plays well for what I do (in don't really do many Gilmour-esque bends). If the 13s on the Viking are doable, then the 11s might be right where I need to be. I don't care for the feel of 9s, 10s aren't bad. We'll see!
  10. Here is the Artist that has my attention these last few days. The Melancon and Artist Korina rotate in often.
  11. Stonge- I'm about to put together a Tele of my own. A local guy makes great guitar necks with stainless steel frets, and also does bodies. He's going to order some swamp ash for the body (it will be chambered), and the neck will be a Strat-style neck with a rosewood fingerboard. I'm going to have it routed Nashville style with three pickups, and I'm considering Bardens. Finish will either just be a stain or Tru Oil. I'm also thinking of a Strat trem...so this thing will be less Tele and instead just a mess of different things I want. Hopefully this will turn into an everyday player.
  12. So, what is everyone playing right now? My Artist Korina (with Wolfetone P90s) currently has my attention, along with my Melancon Cajun Gentleman (love the TV Jones on this one). I've also been giving a good amount of time to my other Artist, which has Wolfetone HBs and series/parallel wiring. All 3 produce tones that seem to hit my mood perfectly right now.
  13. Wait a second...Cheap Trick, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden all-female tribute bands have been mentioned in this thread? I feel as if some kind of trifecta of awesomeness has been achieved today.
  14. Very nice! They should go on tour with the Iron Maidens.
  15. And then the Beatles have to sue the Beatnix This conversation reminds me of the following scene from The Commitments: "They nicked it from Marvin Gaye." "He nicked it from Bach!"
  16. Yep. Beatnix were clearly the innovators. They should sue whoever prevails in the current suit.
  17. I was talking about this with my guitar tech (he is primarily a builder but also does set-ups). Our idea of a working man's guitar is a stripped down Tele with a few tweaks. I'm about to ask him to make me a Tele body that is chambered (Tally style). I'll likely ask for a 3 pickup configuration, like a Nashville Tele. There will be a belly cut in the back. He makes great compound radius necks with stainless steel frets. He is going to try to recreate my favorite, which was mahogany with a rosewood board, and a gun oil finish. There will be no binding, nothing fancy. Natural finish. As for wood, I was thinking swamp ash. He feels there might be other, more resonant woods for the top. I'm not sure which pickups to go with yet, so suggestions would be welcome (3 single coils). Guy's name is Greg Hails- he runs Aperio Guitar in the Atlanta GA area if anyone is interested. BTW, he started talking about double cutaway guitars the other day...
  18. Lately I've been playing with more distortion than I usually do, and I started jonesing for a Steve Stevens I. I'm assuming that would make a good shredder/metal guitar, though I've never played one. FYI, my 90s (non-Floyd) Phantom reacts well with a little distortion thrown at it.
  19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Peavey-Wolfgang-Dark-Cherry-/321326788586?pt=Guitar&hash=item4ad091afea Check out the description on this Wolfgang, for example: "The guitar is sweet...so let me tell you a little about it. The action is a mile high, so you will have to tune all the strings about major third low, so when you finally get your hand to the fret board it's kind of in tune. but that only works for bar chords, chords with open strings require a re-tune. so you will probably have to re-tune between chord changes, during a song, but if your good you should be able to pull it off I think. for about ten years I did a little experiment with it, and subjected it to extreme temperature changes, to see if I could crack the finish. I think in the range of -30 to 250 in about 1 minute was the standard, I set for the experiment. That's why the pics, are not that clear, so I can hide the cracked wood, scratches, and dis-bonded trim. For the last 14 years it has been in a room, that fluctuates between 0% humidity, to a 100% 3 times a day. the frets are dressed so, when you slide up or down the fret board, it tends to slice your fingers, right after your first knuckles. but I just keep super glue on the mic stand. the frets are starting to pop out, and now kind of rock back and forth as you play, so if you play any sort of triad, on the GBE strings, you can't really have low opens ringing out at the same time. sometimes a fret will completely pop out, but when that happens, I just quick pick it up and improvise a slide solo with it, and the crowd seems to like it too. I should have never brought it to one of the best luthiers in the country, to have such a crappy fret job done. Also the tone sucks bad! who ever built this, didn't know anything about good tone that's for sure. if you touch the whammy, it completely goes out of tune. Oh by the why, I can not be trusted! I have no scruples, and I rip people off all the time. actually I'm surprised, no one has shot me by now! I'm supported by the government, so if you buy this, you have actually paid for it about 53.46 time before....technically. My time in the military, in special ops units and regular units, is all a lie....I'm to selfish to put my life on the line for my country. I'm just a scum bag really.....thanks for looking at my guitar...sucker!" Sounds like your shredder!
  20. I was just going to mention that a Wolfgang with a Floyd will likely be my next purchase.
  21. I'm playing through a Blackstar HT5R combo amp backed up by a Boss ME-70 multi effects unit. I'm living in an apartment for the next 7-8 months, and I'm sure the neighbors hate me (5 watts is louder than I anticipated...)
  22. Murkat Gary Moore Tribute Hamer More details on this one, if you don't mind...
  23. Talk about perfection. Great color for a Jazzmaster. Did you install the Lollars? I'm curious about the original pups vs the Lollars.
