Value of the most expensive guitar you own?
SteveB replied to zorrow's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Electric guitars are cheap. Try pricing out good classical or flamencos. -

The Alder body Cali deluxes are killer guitars. -
What pulls you musically out of the emotional hole?

back in Colorado we used to do lunch at this bar and grill place, that for some unknown reason suddenly went on a weeping cowboy country ballad fetish. At one point I finally asked a waitress "seriously, are you trying to get your patrons to commit suicide?" -

I'm not sure how much of a racial advantage there might be for some vocalists, but proper training helps immensely I think. Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga both share the same vocal coach and have been trained since young. I do like girls with big, full voices. as far as R&B goes, These girls have always been near the top of my list. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiFchM6lu10 -

so many. Ann Wilson, Amy Lee, Holly Cole ( killer torch jazz singer), Allison Goldfrapp, Little Boots, KT Tunstall, Gretchen Wilson, Liz Phair, Alanis Morissette, Shakira, Amy Winehouse, etc. These two have gotten most of the playtime lately though, I love em both. Pinks latest album is killer. It's basically a rock album. and it's no secret I'm enamored with Gaga's voice. -
Well, it was fun....... but it's over.

G&L gets a pass obviously because of the involvement of Leo Fender -

People that want Gibson style guitars tend to buy Gibsons, and the market for people looking for ultra quality Gibson style guitars that are not Gibson is probably not huge. Gibson still has a powerful brand name even with all the crap they've put out in recent years. For the longest time Hamer disavowed and refused to even admit to the guitars that they were probably most famous for. PRS carved out it's own space between Gibson and Fender while adding technical and ergonomic improvements, rather than just making a better something else. The PRS also turned out to be a very good looking guitar. PRS is also continously innovative and always trying new things, some of which work, and some of which don't, but they don't just sit around trying to copy past successes. The product line changes and remains fresh. And Yes, Paul has known the value of marketing since day one. PRS works for me exactly because they did split that Gibson/Fender space with a supremely comfortable guitar (and the best tremelo unit in the business), whereas every Hamer I've tried that was not a Daytona or Shredder had balance issues that drove me nuts, the same as the Gibsons they were modeled after. Hamer was basically trying to sell better Gibsons at higher than Gibson prices with poor resale value during an economic downturn. Can't imagine why that didn't work. -
P!nks new album kicks butt.

just downloaded the album. I'm liking this a lot. The Darkness has been opening for Gaga during the european leg of her tour. I hope they'll do in in the US too. Justin has been having fun photobombing Gaga fan pics. -
excellent. Yes, Adams a bit broadway, but that fits Queens music. another good one.

^^^^^^^^ all that proves is that specific Beyonce song has trite lyrics. You could also point to last years worldwide smashes by Adele as an example that good songwriting is still alive and well and appreciated by many people. I could also find plenty of trite top40 stuff written at the same time as Bohemian I'm sure. People use music for different purposes, they don't all have to be Bohemian Rhapsody. It's not like Crazy Little Thing Called Love was an example of superior song craft either.

Lady Gaga, Born This way Ball Tour, first 31 dates covering Asia and Oceania, gross 67 million. I think she's doing pretty good on her own, but I'd love to see her with Queen. Adam has more actual vocal range though. I'd love to see Gaga/Queen do some new material, but Adam probably handles the back catalog better.

I'd love to hear your thoughts from a first hand perspective.

from Bri: http://www.brianmay....b/brianssb.html Copyright Brian May, see link above: Well, I think we all felt the last couple nights in Hammersmith have been a moment of significance. In fact, perhaps especially last night. The band, as it is now, seems suddenly to have switched into a higher gear - more confident, having more fun … and stepping into new territory … an amazing thought at this stage in our lives and in our careers … to be honest, I would never have thought it possible before this journey with Adam Lambert began. Adam has his own style and path, and there was never any intention that he would be 'another Freddie" - but there are many parallels, in the mechanisms which we've already developed - coming together as an organic band. It's very pure - having no extra guitarist means I am back in the old place, as in the Old Days, completely responsible for holding up the 'wall' of sound, but also completely free to control the dynamics and 'feel', working more or less as a four-piece - something which is only possible because Adam is such a strong pivot and front-man. No backing singers - no dancers - it's pure - somehow it feels like Rock ought to be … … dangerous and stimulating. It's completely - real. In this epoch of auto-tune and hard discs on stage, that's pretty rare these days. And everybody seems to be having fun. Including … totally … US! Many thanks to you guys in the Hammersmith audience - no bunch of rockers could be more supportive and inspiring. The view above is something nobody else sees … it's from Pete Malandrone … my intrepid and unflappable Guitar Tech - this is the amazing sight from the Apollo (Odeon) stage - you guys are beautiful !! Love Bri

Unfortunately there don't seem to be plans for a worldwide tour yet, just a small selection of shows in Europe so far. I really hope they find a way to bring a tour to the states at some point, although it might be complicated by the fact that Adam just released his own album.
