Adam is killing it IMO. He's not Freddy, no, but he has his own thing going on and I'm glad Queen didn't get a Freddy clone and turn themselves into a Freddy Tribute band.

Another LONG rant about people not paying for music
SteveB replied to MCChris's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Another cross over post from TGP. Here is an interesting interview I just found with Troy Carter. Troy Carter is Gaga's manager. He gave a keynote interview at a conference in Singapore and discussed various issues such as the importance of the fan/artist relationship, the changes in the landscape of the music business, and how he is optimistic that the industry will navigate through the issues and actually thrive in a new environment. He's very excited about the fact that barriers to entry in distributing music have been broken down. It's long, but worth listening to a current major player speak who isn't negative about the modern climate. http://www.billboard.com/news/lady-g...07391752.story -
Another LONG rant about people not paying for music
SteveB replied to MCChris's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
looks like you formed your reply before I "depersonalized" mine a bit, but anyway. Lets say I make a recording, in a studio, hire a band, spend time writing songs, make an album. I decide not to bother with physical media, and just put the album up on amazon and iTunes for download. It never had physical form. People deciding to share the mp3's around the world for free rather than downloading for .99 cents certainly will be theft, unless all the work I put into creating the album in the first place has zero inherent value. The medium is meaningless, that is why it's called INTELLECTUAL property. -
Another LONG rant about people not paying for music
SteveB replied to MCChris's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
And this statement is EXACTLY why so many people rip off other's intellectual property with no feelings of wrong... because they don't believe they are actually stealing anything. With all the philosophizing about the free market and the music industry, wouldn't we argue that if a person cannot afford to acquire a product legally, that they shouldn't have the right to enjoy the product? Maybe some people need to go work harder so they can pay for those .99 cent downloads. But there is no incentive too, because hey, it's only electronic data, right? I'm just gonna repost my response on TGP to a similar thread here even though it doesn't directly refer to any particular message here, same concepts apply: Many people today just don't value intellectual property, and won't pay for it no matter how easy it might be to do, and even if 100% of the money went directly to the artist. The excuse of not wanting to line the pockets of multinationals is just that, an excuse to give them an out for not paying. Claiming "I'll support the artist directly" is bogus, as because out of hundreds of artists they may have on iPod most people will have bought tickets to shows or merch from a very tiny percentage, the rest get NOTHING for what they have done. Yet the music is still enjoyed. Sure, business models need changed, but the underlying culture that decrees that anything easily shared is free is still a big problem for anyone trying to make a living as an artist. So, currently the artists are getting shafted by the music industry corporations and the people who listen to their music both. That is not a viable situation. -
Any of you guy's gone all digital for amplification
SteveB replied to Mindseyes's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
You know, I try to keep up. I keep seeing people refer to an FRFR... what the hell is it??? Two Full Range speakers. Powered PA cabs are one example. Those AxeFX seem real neat, but a Boogie Mark IV, a few pedals, and a simple rack processor, and I'm good for about any tone I care to dig up. I made the mistake a few years ago of trading away my first Mk IV for a Triaxis and TC G-Force thinking I needed more options, but the IVs give me everything I need. I don't care to spend countless hours dialing in countless tones when I've already figured out what works for me. thats pretty much where I'm at. Had an Afx Ultra for quite a while and liked it, but didn't get enough utility out of it to justify keeping it around when live I only use 2 or 3 sounds max anyway, that I can get with my Boogies and a good drive pedal. The Afx also had what seemed like an extra emphasis on the pick attack which always annoyed me. Haven't tried the AfxII. Looks like I'm going to start doing some duo gigs with a friend, for that I'm thinking of just getting one of the new Zoom G3's, which I can use as a modeller for some gigs and just use as effects pedals in my tube rig for others. -
I've come to the conclusion that sometimes we just admire musicians and musicianship more than music. Hazard of being a musician. I posted a bit of a rant at TGP about that, but basically we might find a lot of music more enjoyable if we'd quit measuring it up to some artificial standard we think all music should hold up to. We let our brains get in the way sometimes, and that includes worrying about if Dave Grohl has "cred" before you decide if his music is enjoyable to you or not.

Totally Falco.

The production on "Pumped up Kicks" drives me nuts. Dunno why they decided to bury the chorus in delay.

Rihanna was smokin' last night.

Nicki is working with Laurieann Gibson, former Creative Director and Choreographer for Gaga who Gaga "parted ways with" earlier this year for "creative differences," which were brewing all year. I think Gibson was trying to prove she was the creative force behind Gaga, but Nicki's performance came across as an in-cohesive mess, and Nicki herself doesn't have the performance or singing/rapping talent to back it up. Some people claim Nicki is a great rapper, but I just don't see it, and the way she uses her voice annoys me.

In a universe where Foster the People are considered a rock band, the Foo's look like geniuses.
-
Ha... alas, too true. Mostly though I just like to troll the fine folks at TGP. I think Badger was talking about Nicki Minaj's "performance".

Cajun Grillin.

I prefer this much more than Tattoo....

It's not a bad song, it just sounds like a recycling of old VH, but in more boring fashion. While thats good from a nostalgia standpoint, I'd hope they'd do something to try to push their boundaries a bit and not make something that sounds like they are just trying to grab money from old fans. Maybe the rest of the album will show something different.

meh.

This board software is the same as another board I'm on, so I figured it would work. I usually just type the media and /media tags by hand with the url in between. "Media" and "/Media" should be surrounded by [ ] but I can't type them that way and have them show up in the sentence. I still don't know what the "My Media" thing is though.

Just one "desert island" instrument...
SteveB replied to Willie G. Moseley's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Yamaha CG171SF. $359 new, I bought two of them for around $200 each used. Acoustics only on a desert island. -
Any of you guys hip to this thing?
SteveB replied to Hamer of the gods's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I thought those things looked kinda cool but not $400 cool, for me anyway. I'd be nice to have a small unit like that in my "secondary" practice area though, where I don't have my computers and audio gear. -
I've heard this is good I'll have to go check it out.

so what are some new song favorites you've "discovered" in the last year or so? Don't have to be recently released songs, just ones that you've found that you really like. And yes some of these are very pop. What can I say, I've been in a pop mood lately. Paris - Grace Potter : Pissed off and mad about it - Texas Hippie Coalition : Wanted - Jessie James. Yeah, it's pop country. And yeah, she's smokin hot. : Fever - Adam Lambert. Hair metal meets Marilyn Manson. : Bloody Mary - Lady Gaga. This song has embedded in my brain. : Remedy - Little Boots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McdqerXrwXE Buster Voodoo - Rodrigo Y Gabriela. Sigh, still in love with Gabby...
