wouldn't shorted be NO load, not a huge load? And open is basically infinite resistance, or HUGE load. If I understand it right, Higher loads than designated are more likely to blow transformers, while lower loads are more likely to blow power tubes. Mesa at least says it's ok to try mismatches, but I think they usually mean 1 step, 4 -> 8 or 8->16 or the otherway. Mesa are probably overbuilt enough to take a 2 step change, but I don't know for sure. If it's a multispeaker cab, might be easier to rewire it to lower the resistence if possible.

the GC that is closest to me has a couple of SD-1's that it has priced somewhere north of $150. Is there some version of this thing that has gotten some sort of "vintage rep", or is GC just smoking crack? My SD-1 is ok, but doesn't exactly scream "kick ass".

I long ago decided that if I can't find a way to sound good through good quality "production" hardware then I shouldn't be playing anyway. None of the famous users of Trainwrecks or Dumbles became famous because of those amps, they already had steller tone and chops before then. For those people, a TW or Dumble maybe gave them just that little extra that they could really make use of. I have a long way to go before I even learn how to extract every last bit of performance from any of my Mesa Marks.

Interesting Idea, although I'd hate for my speaker to be trained only to play the first opening riffs of a bunch of zz top songs.

I have an EVM12L that has been reconed. It's super stiff sounding compared to my other EVM's. What's the best way to "burn in" a speaker without specialized equipment. Stuff it in a closet and play bass heavy music through it?

I have to go with Fair Warning as well, although I've always liked Women and Children First quite a bit. The weakest DLR album was probably Diver Down, too many cover tunes on that one. I think 5150 is the best Van Hagar.

Thats the pic I was looking for! In real life it had just a bit more green in it. Thats my old Diablo, Virt, and Cali Deluxe. Should not have gotten rid of the Cali, that was a kick ass guitar. I think I might know where it is though, might have to chase it down and see if they want to get rid of it.

I had a Teal colored diablo once. I can't seem to locate pic's of it though.

Only one new Hamer, in fact, this is the first Hamer I've had in a couple years. Actually I only bought one guitar this year, although I did do a big trade too for a PRS. Bought a buttload of Boogies though, so I guess this was amp year. I did show some restraint and passed up on the Mark III redstripe head I just saw at a local GC.
