HOLY SHIT -
Yeah, I have a pickup quandary: I f*ckin' can't get it right 'cause I tend to buy impulsively. I'm one of those idiots who's gotta hear it in the exact guitar that it would be in when it was being used. Otherwise, I've found that, with few exceptions, I end up swapping them out 'cuz they don't sound the way they did on the website's audio sample or as heard on the YouTube demo or worse of all, as played in the music store.

My two go-to Cali's need to swap personalities. The Python has the Murkat Special and the Barney Sparkle has the SD Custom. The Custom is a slightly more versatile and I'd prefer it to be in the more graphically impressive Cali, with the intent to make the Python my main stage Cali. The Barney Sparkle would then become my 80's-specific Cali, haulin' it out for tunes like Autograph's Turn Up the Radio, Skid Row's Youth Gone Wild, Twisted Sister's We're Not Gonna Take It and the like. However, all bets are off when the Custom arrives...

Indeed! Edited to add: BCR Greg has shown remarkable restraint in not trying to kill me in response to my incessant inquiries about the status of my CO Cali. In lieu of trying to kill me, he just ignores my pointless questions. Still have much luv for ya, Unca Greg!

Like wise. Makes me feel all tingly inside when I think about the Cali I sent him. It's in Stike's hands now, as well. Can't fookin' wait to get it back.

2013 "Buy No Guitars" Challenge - **WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

Is there a good story behind this? Generally speaking, a bad gamble or decision is not good story fodder. But a good lesson has (hopefully) been learned. -

I'm out and on a bad gamble/decision. F-ed up, big time. -
Value of the most expensive guitar you own?

None of your fucking business. *edited to add that my most expensive ax is not even in the top 3 of those most valuable to me. -

I'm out. Tah-lee's SS (custom?) is en route. It was fun while it lasted and frankly, I'm pleased I lasted this long. Might've made it longer if my GAS had been quelled by a certain Custom Cali that's still in CT. Always good for a laugh... for the first 45 seconds. -
That's actually a really nice lookin' ax! The selector switch placement is puzzling though... I'd consider selling off a few vital organs (I've heard Framus are expensive!) to afford one of them with the right mods- different color paint, different p'ups, tweak the head stock shape a little, move the selector and change to a toggle style. BAM! Good to go!
-
+1 I'd love to hear about these limited edition diablos. I know nothing of them save for a few bits I culled from a quick Google search a few minutes ago. Birdseye maple necks. Some had non- reversed head stocks A series of 20 in the UK had toggle switches. JB/59's or Dimarzios Anything else?
-
Yup. I'm kinda funny that way...
-
Of course I am but I can't bring myself to pull the trigger for that kinda cash. Dammit!
-
Hmm. Okay, any sincere responses?

I posted this in the thread about the crowned SS1 but... What's a reasonable price for a crowned SS1?

Oh, was that me? Na, I always brought my own gear to the shows no matter what. did we share a gig together?.... Who knows, Jay, coulda been you. But likely you were playing better venues than me. We played smaller clubs, some out in the middle of no where, or some that were @ good sized venues but had "exposure shows" i.e. they were poorly drawing nights (Mondays,Tuesdays & Weds.) and they would pay us a % of the door take. Which, for us, was like 3 dollars- Then, there was the final, inconsequential item of: we sucked. Still didn't dissuade other bands from wanting to borrow shit, though. -

I guess I've interpreted this from the context of: how would I react to having one of my beloved vintage axes f-ed up in that manner? There's certainly been no shortage of A-hole rock stars with f-ed up, rock star behaviors. That's never gonna change. My beef is on the level of taking ANY man's (or woman's) guitar and treating it that way. I guess that's why I don't lend my gear to anyone unless I know them personally. Have rubbed a few feathers the wrong way because of my policy but that's too bad. There was a time out in Seattle in '89, and in the early 90's around here, when my band would be doing double bills with other bands (or worse, a Battle of the Bands ) and someone from another band would always wanna borrow something- a cabinet, a cable, a tuner, a wah pedal, strings, etc. I drew the line at amp or guitar. I could afford to replace anything else but not the amps and axes. -

Pretty much what I said, Greg. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this is an appropriate response. That is beyond shit-house rat crazy fucked up. There is no plausible excuse for that shit. I'd have beaten the little fucker within and inch of his purple life. Jail time or not, I'd a beaten him so he'd remember the pain that comes with being a complete and utter douche bag. -

Really? You think that gives him the right to destroy someone's vintage ax that way? Like I said, IMO, I don't care who you are, ya don't mess with another man's ax like that. If I'm missing a big chunk of the subtext, i.e. Prince choreographed this or made arrangements to compensate the guy behind the scenes then my rant is for naught. I'm basing my opinion on the apparent fact that Douglas didn't seem to know that was gonna happen. -

Not surprised by that, Dave.
