  1. What cmatthes said - a great compendium of power pop listed in his post.
  2. blackfbiv - maybe you shoulda played "White Riot"...
  3. Don't you get a bit worried when the residents start slamming to "White Riot"?
  4. Man, you have bathroom troubles - lost a good buy from #1, but your thread title screams #2.
  5. Thanks for posting - never seen those before, but they look very interesting. How does the unit sound? Is it heavy?
  6. Happy B'day Unka Greg!
  7. Congrats Bob - great score. Put a nice sounding speaker in there, a few finishing touches and voila - you're in BF promised land!
  8. Long & McQuade's in Canada currently has the Traynor Quarter Horse on sale for $119. Never tried one, but I've heard they make a great backup option. Personally, I REALLY like Jennifer Connelly's Quarter Horse...
  9. After having a Tele as my main axe for 20+ yrs from the early '80's onwards, I was overjoyed to get back to my HB "roots". Was truly starting to despise the thin, snappy sound of a single-coil equipped guitar and get back to something with balls and a thicker, more complex tone. I'm quite happy with my three guitars now (SG Jr w/P90, SG Special w/mini-buckers and Kay 1410 w/Dearmond "Cheese-Grater") but will not long for the sound of a Fender-style guitar anytime soon.
  10. Congrats - great score at that price! I have a DMM from the '90's, but the vintage ones were the "grails". They did have a reputation for being a bit funky and unreliable, but far less so than the alternative at the time - tape echo. These sound much better than a Carbon Copy in my books...
  11. Try pure lanolin - works great on many skin conditions (better than topical steroids, Vitamin E, coconut oil, etc.).
  12. Booker T (synomous with the term "Hammond B3") Jon Lord Tony Banks Dave Greenfield Darious Wilson Richard Wright
  13. Like many concerts, there was a fair share of diehard fans who'd come from a long distances. We had a whole slug of US-based storm chasers in attendance for this one though, which was a little unusual (never heard of them in these parts in the past 25 yrs I've lived here). Apparently, they'd been chasing tornado producing systems all the way up from OK into Canada. We've been on tornado watch/warnings for the past two days, the nearest one touched down about 5 miles SE of here an hour ago apparently.
  14. Coupla pics (I didn't take 'em, so don't dump on me fellas):
  15. ...and/or his music, but the man does put on a pretty good show. Mrs. G wanted to catch his act and we're just starting to get some half-decent names appearing locally since our town (35K pop.) built a new multiplex, so feel we should support as many acts as we can to keep them coming around (bought Alice Cooper tickets, passed on Honeymoon Suite). Cowboy Junkies opened, and was actually looking forward to checking them out since Margo Timmins was so smoldering hot back in the '80's. They have a series of 4 new albums they recorded in 3 months and are touring in support of their release. As such, they mostly covered their new material from those which sounds more like psychedic folk/acid roots than their older stripped-down blues/country ballad style. Cheap is How I Feel and Sweet Jane were the only songs I recognized from back in the day, but in all fairness, tough to cover much ground in a 40 min opening set. Unfortunately, Cowboy Junkies lacked a lot of stage presence and Margo came off seeming very shy and timid as a front-person. Her voice was solid throughout and has held up nicely over the years, however. Mellancamp came on with a flourish and kept the energy and pace on for his complete set, which lasted a good hour and three-quarters. While I never owned a Mellancamp album in my life (wife sure did - found plenty of his cassettes in her Camaro when we were dating in the '80's!), I gotta give it to him - he's a polished showman and has a great live presence that rare few acts have. His voice has held up well and his backup band was pretty tight (mostly Fender backline on guitars). The young female violinist and male on accordian/keys really added a lot to the performance. It goes without saying that the energy level's typically pretty high whenever you catch an act with so much popular/recognizable material, so that definitely helped his cause also. Have to admit, I had a pretty damn good time. Didn't expect a lot and was pleasantly surprised. Now, if only the Cowboy Junkies had played more of the Trinity Sessions material...hmm....
  16. ACG was pretty large and extremely valid to young folks in the early 70's. Most of us crusty buggers watch now for the nostalgia trip, others to check out Orianthi, others just to see the stage presentation. Gotta remember it's rock theater from a different time/mindset, don't hate or judge based on that. And yah - we know it's cheese - but it's OUR cheese. I don't get the hate, troll comments and derision directed toward AC coming from the Phish-fans at Bonnaroo on the streaming comments. It's all music kiddies - pick your poison and engage it; if you don't dig it, think it's valid or relate to it in any way, move on. Personally, I'd take AC over Phish any day o' the week and twice on Sundays. Phish are a fine band - tight, inventive, evoke many of the same qualities as The Dead. Only so much of that boring dreck jam stuff I can take though as 80% sounds the same after a few tunes. Ditto RadioHead - one of my "bucket list" bands to see live fo' sho', but fekk their Bonnaroo set on Friday was mostly a snoozefest with a few rare moments of pure excitement thrown in for good measure.
  17. Yup - thought it was decent set AC did. Sounded pretty hoarse for those first few numbers, was wondering how he was gonna get thru the set. Smoothed out a bit after that and kinda settled in. Coupla surprises in the encore/ending to keep things interesting.
  18. Tis so Orianthi - and she's kickin' some butt too!
  19. It looks very...um...festive. What the hell - I'd rock it!
  20. There's Jim rocking another vintage Ampeg. How many 'pegs you up to now?
  21. Just find that jam stuff gets old/tired fast. When I'm playing something like that, I'm thinking to myself "I gotta get outta this box pronto".
  22. Wonder how "So Lonely" would work - uptempo reggae rocker, but a little off the beaten path from their more popular material. Think our rhythym section could handle that one. I honestly can't remember the last time I saw a band cover a Police tune - maybe 20 yrs ago??
  23. ... a track or two that goes over well live in a club or summer festival setting. What works for you?
