  1. mine is a twin for that one, just a bit newer, more original but a bit beatup. It doesn't fit in my spare Hamer (Special) case, which is interesting.
  2. Yes! you have to make those things very clear. When selling a bicycle, I always put the size in the header and as the first line of the text, I used to put the size any old place in the description, but no one reads the full text of the ads and I would often get a response asking about the size ("it's right there in the text!"). I could probably 'hide' damage by just describing it a few lines into the description. I often put 'firm' next to the price, which hardly anyone regards as real, but I think it cuts down on some of the ridiculous lowball offers.
  3. It's always a good move to compare the spouse to the wife of a foreign dictator
  4. I've also given up on Craigslist, and switched to FB, I flip guitars pretty regularly, and the occasional bicycle. Craig's is almost dead, but there are people who don't use FB so it is worth cross posting if you have time. I had another bad trade offer last night (a LOW end Ibanez geo and 200 for a nice but hfc priced bass I have), I just respond "not looking for any trades right now, sorry" I think I will start including "no trades" in my text. But I did actually get a decent trade offer that I took a month or two ago, although I'm still trying to sell that guitar I took in trade. Trade offers that aren't laughable are very rare. I have started included "local (my city) meetup only please" which has actually been very helpful. It's helpful to have a friend to vent to, and to talk to about how to respond to the knuckleheads. Nearly everyone I have dealt with is very cool, - my luck is probably due to run out. Here's a snip of a trade offer that made me laugh that I got a few months ago, I declined the offer.
  5. There's a post on Reddit from 2 years ago, about why Cali's are so expensive. Most of the reply's are sensible, but one guys post really cracks me up "It's for the Hamer enthusiast. These people exist. There are maybe 10 of them in the wild".
  6. I've got a couple of not Hamers that had a some sharp ends off the edge of the fingerboard, just a little bit sharp. I did some careful testing with a small rounded 'needle file' from a set of files I got from Harbor Freight years ago. It went much faster and easier than I had thought. I don't think anyone but a real pro could tell or would care that I did it myself. this looks like the file set I have https://www.harborfreight.com/12-piece-precision-needle-file-set-4614.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=21901739426&campaignid=21901739426&utm_content=173216738631&adsetid=173216738631&product=4614&store=51&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqIm_BhDnARIsAKBYcmu1x58IDUEDmoUSS73DZLsiAoVRX22kXDU2embZ_CRPMvW5fUL2EMkaAlZXEALw_wcB
  7. I had a Epi LP Custom not long ago, I think it was a '23 model, made in China. It was good, much better than the Epis I flipped 10-20 years ago, I showed it to a trusted friend with good taste in guitars, he agreed. My experience with Indonesian builds has been positive, an Ibanez BTB that I had zero complaints about, and I've currently got two Ibanez Premiums (which are made in Indonesia), and they are very very nice. I would have higher expectations of newer production, over older builds.
  8. I'm pretty sure the last new bass I bought was my '97 Cruise V (deluxe; with emg's, and 2tek), it was new 'dated' inventory and heavily discounted, probably in about '99. Prior to that a similarly dated/ and more heavily discounted Cali Standard, almost hfc approved cheap for that red one. I sold it to someone here for something nearly equally stupid like $500, quite a while ago. That awesome little music shop that is now long gone was always discounting something, or had really interesting used gear, a GC casualty. I still have the Cruise V, and it's not leaving anytime soon.
  9. I don't buy any guitars or basses I can't at least get my money back out of, so I *always buy used. I enjoy hunting for used gear to keep or flip and there's no reason to 'overpay' for anything. I also try not to keep anything that's depreciating. The exception to this rule over the past 25 years is the Eart headless (made in China) I got about 2 weeks ago, they're about 10% higher priced than earlier this month, but still pretty stupid cheap, I don't regret getting it, I think it was $319 free shipping off Amazon, - stupid cheap is the exception.
  10. If you have one of those solder removal tools, my old one has what looks like a turkey baster bulb on it, one of those makes removing the old jack from the pcb pretty easy, worth the investment even if you rarely use it
  11. I'm guessing it might give an acoustic a more Taylor-ish sound, which is desirable to many, and should be easy to "tone down"? The Eart headless I got on the weekend has them, so I've had two low price guitars with ss frets now, so smooth, and a little 'bright' sounding I think I would like them on most basses
  12. makes me think of the Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am, in a good way, - very cool guitar
  13. The Eart available from Amazon showed up for my birthday (don't waste your birthday toy requests). So far it has been quite fun, and I can sit on the couch and play when needed. The fretwork is impressive: level, smooth and well intonated. Nice medium neck, about 6 pounds even. The pickups sound good and are well balanced, and somewhat vintage-ish, I was a/b ing it with my old Tokai LP yesterday, but my ears have poor short term memory. Surprisingly, the output is quite a bit lower/quieter than my other guitars (maybe 20% less loud?), but it sounds good, the pup ohms read 15.85 for the bridge and 7.25 neck, 5.02 combined. It stays in tune and is fun to play. I was a bit surprised by how much I have used the headstocks as a reference point. Also a pleasant surprise, it sits nicely on an old regular guitar stand. For $319 + tax, it's hard to not recommend one of these.
  14. I had a lower price guitar recently with stainless frets, it sounded a bit 'jangly' and maybe a bit bright? A friend is going to get a refret on his wonderful sounding Larrivee acoustic and considering stainless frets because this guitar gets a lot of use, but messing with the tone is not something he wants to do.
  15. my Centaura is a '90, but this is for the '90s showcase
  16. a couple suddenly popping up for 'decent' pricing, what gives?! https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Hamer/Used-Hamer-Centaura-USA-2-Color-Sunburst-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP&utm_medium=paid-search&utm_channel=paid-search&utm_source=google&utm_platform=google&utm_campaign=GC_G_NTM_PLA-PMX_Guitars_Electric_U&utm_ct=pla&utm_tactic=prospecting&utm_segment=guitar&utm_term=&utm_content=120614406&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2oW-BhC2ARIsADSIAWoyxc5Hsux34kLwMLJqwWKMV8xeiKfS_5wOvnGobNNBQE4PV6PVW5YaAlIsEALw_wcB
  17. and a case!, has this not been mentioned yet? https://www.sweetwater.com/used/listings/228755-used-hamer-vintage-old-stock-1987-usa-hamer-chaparral-custom-electric-guitar-with-case?mrkgcl=28&acctid=21700000001645388&dskeywordid=92700080518145358&lid=92700080518145358&ds_s_kwgid=58700008750995430&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000041860162&dsproductgroupid=2187553399096&product_id=GX-228755&prodctry=ZZ&prodlang=en&channel=online&device=c&network=g&adpos=largenumber&locationid=9190511&creative=706697184393&targetid=pla-2187553399096&campaignid=21493289649&awsearchcpc=1&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2oW-BhC2ARIsADSIAWo3vdM_C_1v-pXGinCMCEIpCo6k7e5Xgvf8ngrMA6NV2o-IBsSbKpgaAlq0EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
  18. Has this not been posted yet? It looks like a 6 digit serial, which should be usa, and a '90 https://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Hamer/Vintage-Vintage-1989-Hamer-Centaura-Granite-Solid-Body-Electric-Guitar.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP&utm_medium=paid-search&utm_channel=paid-search&utm_source=google&utm_platform=google&utm_campaign=GC_G_NTM_PLA-PMX_Guitars_Electric_U&utm_ct=pla&utm_tactic=prospecting&utm_segment=guitar&utm_term=&utm_content=120809441&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2oW-BhC2ARIsADSIAWo8EniMutl6qjH4rtb3DgO_-Jwu8-jm3eDtlYIg8WUCBPlKPrnDkIQaAuU7EALw_wcB
  19. I have quoted a friend numerous times who said this years ago, and he's mostly like not the original source "monitors are for two things only: pitch and timing" I think some singer was asking for reverb in his monitor wedge, when we really didn't have time to mess with that.
  20. I bet they will get back to you, I've had very good luck sourcing parts direct from mfgr a couple of times, and for free twice!
  21. maybe it went beyond flirtation Really cool to see Gary with a Hamer again, he was with Fender when I saw him doing a clinic for them with the Sun Model T amps iirc, but this was quite a while ago now.
  22. Yes, I think direct/in-ears is the trend, but real amps are not gone, and the in-ears guys probably aren't any less 'GASsy' that we are. I sold an '87 jcm800 412 about a month ago for 600, it was pretty clean, it took a month or two for it to go away locally, the guy was pretty stoked and talked about it being 'iconic'. That being said... I wouldn't want to be trying to move a bunch of B or C quality 212 or 412 cabinets right now.
  23. I try to never buy any music gear that I can't make money on, or at least break even on, but I am getting closer to getting one of those cheap headless Eart guitars off amazon, I think it would allow me to play comfortably on the couch, my back might be happier and allow me to practice longer, that's my reasoning anyway, and not a big loss if I decided to resell again. With that as an exception, I avoid collecting anything that's going to depreciate, I put a fair amount of money into bicycles over the past 15 years, those are a terrible investment, but that exercise has quite a bit of value. I laugh when I hear gold/coin store ads on the radio: "it's a great time to buy!, and if you have extra gold and jewlery, it's also a great time to sell!", I'm sure there is a guitar marketing equivalent.
