  1. The issue is not the design of the headstock "by itself". If it were a piece of furniture, or some other thing sold alone as one piece, it might be OK. The beauty of things depends on how they match with their surroundings. And Hamer's headstock, combined with the rest of the guitar, just looks ugly. Not to all, of course, but to enough people that they do not bother to play, let alone buy them. And Hamer was not massively successful because of that reason. The only massive success was had during the 80's...and that headstock was mostly unused then. It's not that difficult to figure out.
  2. I knew I should have never uploaded my picture on the board!
  3. That is not necessary. Just get rid of whatever people find ugly in them, and they will sell.
  4. Not hindsight at all. Jol has been reading this board for years, and knows exactly what his most loyal customers want. I am sure he has also received direct feedback from many of us here, and elsewhere. Still, he has decided to go for what he likes, hoping that enough demand exists for that. I have been very surprised to see that, until now, he has been actually successful doing that. I truly hope he continues succeeding, because that would be an amazing story and he deserves it, but I really doubt it.
  5. I believe the JTM30 uses the equivalent to 6L6's. I had one of these, cool amps.
  6. Headstock shape. Other reasons too, as they have been thorougly explained. But the headstock thing is amazing. It is so easy to change, it costs nothing. But they won't.
  7. The ones I have now: Baja Telecaster Tex-Mex Telecaster And here, fondling my new Road Worn Telecaster (awesome!)
  8. All the time, since 1980.
  9. In this order: 1-Looks 2-Weight 3-Neck "feel" 4-Ditto on resonating acoustically.
  10. Ask him to shorten the scale just a little bit also, so that it plays like buttah.
  11. Me too. ELO was the first band I truly loved. I had the opportunity to see them live in 1992, sans-Lynne. Did not matter too much, the band sounded great, and Groucutt handled all vocal duties very well. RIP.
  12. Sorry, I'm afraid not, this was probably in 1998, many many computers ago. I wish I had kept it, that was very cool.
  13. You might be surprised by all the famous names that have purchased from Hamer. At least I was. Several years ago Jol sent me a list, it was really, really impressive. Agian, they all had to buy theirs, so no "signature" models, but a lot of cool names.
  14. I did not know, may he RIP. You probably should see them on video. Not a pale imitation at all. These guys, including the replacements, are amazing musicians, the band is very tight, the tone is awesome, and they put on a great show.
  15. I had one of those, it was a marvelous guitar, and a breeze to play.
  16. A 1986 for calming down TLE Stress:
  17. He did answer that to me, do not remember the number, but was indeed heavy, I think over 9lbs. Not unreasonable for such a big guitar, but of no interest to me at all. He was actually pretty nice in his response, but I was probably an early one, and he later realized many people are indeed interested in the weight. Edited: I was wrong, I just found his answer: "Hi Jorge- Nice guitar you are inquiring about. All frets are in good shape as this guitar has no wear and has barely been played. I have no scale to weigh the guitar at present but have estimated its "with case" weight for shipping at 15 lbs. I can tell you it is amongst the heaviest I own (out of 40+), a real sustain monster as mentioned in my listing." So, no weight given.
  18. The Studio Custom with the Dan Armstrong headstock. I always wonder how incredibly sucessful Hamer would have been with just a little more design effort.
  19. I've had mine for a few months. Truly amazing guitar, sounds and plays great. I actually put an unwound 0.17 "G" String, and makes bending easier. Since then, I usually play it more than the electrics, at home.
  20. Happy Birthday Guys!!!!
  21. Great playing, great tone!
  22. Agreed. I had the opportunity of watching him play there in 2006 (for a two day business trip, I saw David Gilmour on the second day ). Les Paul plays a rather short, but really wonderful show.
  23. Hey, Happy Birthday Rob! (Waiting for those pictures....)
