Wow, alot of possibilities here... My $.02, having been through some acquisitions back in my corp days, is that FMIC is first and foremost adding market share by eliminating competition, much as GC has over the past ten years. This will be the case whether they ultimately grow or shrink the Hamer brand. What they do with Hamer USA is the huge question. It seems to me the smart play would be to try to finally get a legitimate competitive position vs Gibson in the humbucker / short scale market. Give the brand the marketing and visibility to push it into tier 1, get it in major artists' hands, etc. All pretty easy to do for Fender. Then, the question becomes what happens to the CT factory and crew? Can they hang with the new production demands created by FMICs marketing clout? Quality control??? As far as the current staff all being upbeat and "positive", be assured that is a happy face. Change and uncertainty is tough to swallow when it touches your livelihood, and deep down only the most forward thinking employees are going to possibly have a positive attitude about this development. But, a sure way to get canned in the transition is to come across as a naysayer...

Tiny Terror is a good suggestion. A used Reinhardt 18 is a killer amp at under a grand...

Yep, a calm but serious discussion, handled with respect. That way if he recommits to the band, you can have his ego involved which should help get things back on track faster. If he can't recommit, you've saved alot of hassle, just cancel some near term gigs and be honest with the clubowners as suggested above... Yep, a calm but serious discussion, handled with respect. My nose hair trimmer works awesome on ear hair too! Fantastic!! This whole age / relevancy / playlist question has been going on with me and my compadres since we started playing out again in the late 90's. What we've figured out so far is we're unwilling to quit playing because of our age (40s), real or perceived; and therefore it gets down to picking our playlist and gigs carefully. We do not go out of our way to play the clubs full of 20 somethings that put 30 minutes of hiphop on the PA in between your sets. Occasionally when we find ourselves in one as we did a couple weeks back, we do our thing, have a good time, take our money, and head on down the road. If they ask us back, great. If not, that's okay too... The thing is, there is definitely a market for classic /variety / good time rock...look at the age of most of the corporate party planners, big lawn party throwers, and country clubbers these days -- they grew up with the same music we are talking about, and the gigs pay better. Do you have to play some shmotz for some of these gigs? Absolutely. With tongue in cheek, waiting for the next good tune to come up on the setlist. Mix some cherries in with the brown eyes, everybody stays happy. One of the things that has helped us the most I believe is that we appear to be having a great time, because we are. And crowds tend to feed off that, kids and younger adults included. So, we try to do bar or club gigs pretty selectively, usually where we know the place and have a good shot at going over -- nobody needs the hundred bucks bad enough to go in and play a place where the crowd's not into it, it's not fun. I think the angst and stress over this issue is at its worst when bands are frustrated that they don't fit in with all the hot clubs of the moment. Well, that's the way it is. There are still plenty of other places to enjoy playing out, which is the whole idea imho... My nickel's worth...

What is the status of the Vintage Guitar Market ...
bobbymack replied to a topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
When in Boston last month to see The Police, I stopped in to Bay State Vintage Guitars. My bass player used to play in a band with the owner, this guy Jonesy, so we had a very cool visit and discussion. I played a '60 LP Jr (sweet), a '60 Burst Les Paul (wow), a '56 Strat (ehh), and a '66 Tele (oh yeah)...and we BS'd for about an hour. He says the vintage market for decent stuff has never done anything but go up, it's just a matter of degree. And he's been doing this since the late 60's... BTW, if you are in the market for vintage Fender amps, he had more up there than I've ever seen in one place. Blackface city. And he's an amp tech too, so they are good. This was the first vintage shop I've been in in MANY moons that had the kind of stuff you're hoping to see. And it's a classic...3rd floor, kinda got to know it's there, stuff piled all over the place, kinda stinky and musty, but wow... -

This is my newest R9, a "Cloud 9" (limited '04 run of 60 by Dave's, Music Machine, and Wild West I think) which is chambered and weighs in at a little under 7 1/2 lbs...the neck is a 30/60 neck which means the neck profile is .30 thousands of an inch larger than a 60 slim taper neck profileso it falls in between a 60 slim taper and a regular 59 neck profile and is quite comfortable to play, yet still substantial. "Chambered Burst" is the identical color of the Duane Allman reissues, but renamed for 3 guitars in this run. Love it. There is a new batch out now I've heard, same dealers less Dave's...

+1.The new 50 watt Gold sounds great too if you like the Blue and need more power handling. My personal fave is the G12H Heritage paired in a 2x12 with a Blue.
-
The ones I've played have been superior instruments. If I was a strat guy I'd be on one for sure...

Actually I think the guy makes some valid points, first post or not...

I would not be too quick to dismiss these products fellas. First, the antique (read "~100 yrs old from his grandpa's Arkansas barn and hard as a rock") pine that Bob Burt uses produces the biggest, most resonant sounding cabs I've ever played. I now own 3 of them, and have gigged with them exclusively for 3+ years now. Definitely the best value in cabs I know of. The V Front 2x12s with tilted baffle project unbelievably in live situations. You can have them tolexed or not, I don't. I had one of the Tone Doctor switches installed in my first BB cab. Two reasons why: a) it is the best vehicle for A/Bing different speakers I've ever come across, just flip a switch and you can switch from one to the other; and if you happen to blow a speaker at a gig you can quickly bypass that speaker , switch the ohms tap out on your amp, and you're back rockin. Cork sniffage, maybe to some. Personally, I wouldn't trade my Burt cabs and I've found the Tone Doctor switch very functional and useful, and it's not very expensive. YMMV, but I don't really see the reasons for the negativism either. Reminds me of the Gibson bashing and overall resentment some here have toward any non-Hamer gear that is expensive...

So we got a new Guitar Center in Ct

Personally I'm glad there's one here. Mars drove the only good Mom & Pop we had out about 6 years ago, the remaining ones are full of band rentals and crappy beginner gear. And then there's Sam Ash in the former Mars bldg, which really blows imho and deserves more of the kind of criticism being leveled at GC. In this town, Sam's is where it's blatantly obvious the guys work on commission. I'm not speaking for all GCs, but the one here is good to have around. If you need something in a hurry, they probably have it. And there is a reasonable percentage of non "dude" sales people, who I've gotten to know. They cut me very good deals. There are some specific windows of time when it is best to avoid the place, like days when schools are closed... And ironically, I got far more in trade credit on a P90 Korina Artist a couple years back than I could have sold it for on this page, so they are ok in my book. -

Sorry for your loss and best wishes. I lost my pop in '02, and it's tough. But it gets better, you remember the good stuff, and will think about him every day... Peace to your family.

If you can get your hands on a Zendrive, it totally nails what you're looking for through EL84 amps... Or a properly adjusted RAT. -
Thanks fellas! Off to see my girl Valerie for a 90 minute deep tissue session....schweet!

Yep, I should have mentioned it is not for maple boards...rosewood, ebony, macassar, pao ferro, etc all good...

The Dunlop stuff is okay, but these 2 products are hands down the best I've used: Guitar Honey for the fretboard, Glyde Cote for the rest of the guitar... Check out what Glyde Cote did for this L '58 LP Jr: http://www.darrenriley.com/1958LesPaulJuni...restoration.htm You can order both products from Darren, or Glyde Cote only at http://www.stellingbanjo.com/order/
