  1. In the video it is obvious that Joe Bonamassa was only acquainted with that guitar long enough for it to come out of the case and get signed. What was that? A minute? Why bother? Someone has bid $1400 already.
  2. It would be more desirable without the autograph. Is Joe Bonamassa known for playing a Hamer Special? No.
  3. Someone described Hendrix' use of the Univibe as sounding like he was stirring molten lava with his guitar. That could also apply to Trower when he plays Bridge of Sighs.
  4. The catalog model had P90's. Humbuckers were a simple option.

  6. Someone wanted an all mahogany guitar with humbuckers. What is the big deal? My choice was for an all mahogany Special. Now two of them are mine. My 1982 Sunburst has a maple veneer, but it is essentially all mahogany. There is also an all korina Special with humbuckers that was nice to get. If I was going after a maple topped Special, then there would be one in my collection. The Special FM can sound slightly different because of the maple cap, and it is a model I regret never buying.
  7. The Special FM was a separate model, not a custom order.
  8. In 1993 a Special came with P90 pickups. You could custom order a Special with humbuckers.
  9. If I had a Strat I would be grabbing the Blaster. The first time I saw one was on Hughie Thomasson's Strat in 1980. Meeting him after the show I asked about it. Hughie was proud of the guitar because he installed that Stratoblaster himself. I have wanted one ever since just to try it out.
  10. I saw him last year on the Happy Together 2024 tour.
  11. It would be nice to have seen the New York Dolls when they were the hot band every other New York band wanted to be.
  12. You are in the right price range, but as you know-- we are notorious for being cheap around here.
  13. It was trying out Marrin Barre's Stratocaster in 1971 that made him get one of his own.
  14. He must not be feeling so hot hot hot right now.
  15. You need a Willie Nelson style strap that goes around your neck. Make it gold to look like you are wearing an oversized chain with a gold guitar hanging from it.

  17. Robin Trower played at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta last night. The opening act was Marty Manous, a local guy who played a Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster with a looper pedal. His playing reminded me of Eric Johnson. He was worthy of getting that opening slot. There were a bunch of people bragging about how they saw Robin Trower in the 1970's. No one introduced me to his music until around 1980 or 1981. A guitar playing friend I had not seen in a decade (or two... or more) saw me, and the conversation was all about guitars. At least half the people there around us were talking guitars, too. So, my friend and I were trying to get photos of the settings on the two Marshall heads on stage. The guy next to us got a blurry photo, but it worked. The Presence knobs were turned all the way back. I noticed that for virtually every song Robin was using the neck pickup on his Strat. During Bridge of Sighs he had it in the middle position, and toward the end of the show it was between the middle and neck position. Everything you could hope for in Robin Trower's playing was there. He is 79, and age does not seem to have affected his ability to play guitar. It was a wonderful night.
  18. I think we had a thread on this where the consensus was that a top notch guitar tech was as good as the PLEK machine. Considering all the people here who love the one piece wrap bridge and tailpiece, perfect intonation is not necessary for someone to love their guitar.
