  1. I think Eddie's guitar skills left the building decades ago. Yes, he changed most everything we know about modern guitar playing and building when hit the scene THIRTY YEARS AGO but he hasn't done anything innovative in a couple of decades and like others have said, he's basically just a fried shadow of what he used to be IMO. I saw the last tour twice with Wolf on bass and had a lot of fun; it was great seeing DLR out front again and the band as a whole was really tight. I have no idea (nor do I care) if they used taped background vocals, but I'm also one who thought the way the brothers dealt with Michael A was pure petty bullshit. Then again, I think every problem VH has ever had was created by Eddie and Alex. But Wolf held his own on the bass and at least Ed seemed to be sober both shows, unlike the trainwreck he was when they did the reunion tour with Sammy. I suspect the new CD (if it actually ever comes out) will be decent but predictable, and the supporting tour will sell out regardless. For all the bragging Ed does about having "thousands" of unreleased songs, you gotta wonder why it's taken 15 years or whatever is since VH3 to release some of them.
  2. Not that it helps, but I have an iPhone 4 and it has none of those issues with the iRig/Amplitube app. I also downloaded the Peavey app and promptly deleted it because of all the noise/squeals/etc. I think the Peavey app requires the Peavey input device perhaps....
  3. I don't have an AxeFX but my Velocity 300 is killer and a vast improvement over typical solid state power amps.
  4. Orange County, California's AVENGED SEVENFOLD has released the following statement: "For the past few months, we've been blessed with Mike Portnoy's talent and humanity. "When Mike agreed to tour with us, it was only through the end of 2010. We always knew we'd need to find another solution for 2011 and beyond. And it's time for us to take that next step. "We know we are not ready to add another permanent member of AVENGED SEVENFOLD. We don't know if we will ever be. But if we do, it will only be with someone who is not only a brilliant drummer, but also someone we've gotten to know well on the road and off, and who you the fans have had a chance to get to know, and hopefully accept. In other words, in this family, we take these steps together, band and our extended fan family. "We are lucky to be surrounded by so many friends, many of whom knew [late AVENGED SEVENFOLD drummer] Jimmy ['The Rev' Sullivan] very well personally, as well as our band and Jimmy's drumming talent and style. These friends have introduced us to several amazing drummers. We have decided to take one of them out starting in January. He will not be a member of AVENGED SEVENFOLD. He will be someone you and we are getting to know. Perhaps this drummer will be a fit. Perhaps not. One thing is for sure. Over time we will find someone who helps us continue our quest to make the music we love for the fans we love. "Mike and the band agree that can't be him. Why? Long before there was an AVENGED SEVENFOLD, there were members of this band who looked up to Mike and, in Jimmy's case, learned a lot from watching Mike play. He is a brilliant writer, producer and, of course, drummer. Because of that, the world and we would always see it as AVENGED SEVENFOLD with Mike Portnoy. "We take a lot of pride in AVENGED SEVENFOLD being about something greater than any individuals. It's about the music, the fans and the friends and family we have as well as continuing our best friends legacy. "Please give whoever we try your love and support....and the benefit of the doubt. They won't be Jimmy. Who could be? But he will be himself, with his own special talents and creativity. And that's all we could ever look for. "Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for everything you've done love and support us and help us get back on our feet." AVENGED SEVENFOLD is slated to hit the road in the U.S. next month as part of the "Nightmare After Christmas" tour, along with STONE SOUR and HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD. There is no word yet on whether the band will remain on that tour and enlist a new drummer. James Sullivan, AVENGED SEVENFOLD's founding drummer, was found dead in his California home last December 28 of a fatal mixture of drugs and alcohol.
  5. Makes all the sense in the world....thanks for the details.
  6. What amp are you using? The tone you're getting is incredible.
  7. +1! Simply fantastic!
  8. Ah, true. But we're assuming spending $20K with Jol actually means the customer gets to drive the process. He certainly hasn't worked that way in the past.
  9. Nah...I think the best revenge is seeing the current people at Hamer cranking out some of the coolest custom orders we've seen to date now that the TRIBE (guess he forgot to trademark "guru") has left the building. If I had $20K dedicated to custom guitars, I'd spend it all at the Hamer Custom Shop and get a few cool axes.
  10. Best thread in months.
  11. This. I think Hamer's recent willingness to make all the cool guitars people wanted for so long is indicative of why things got so crappy toward the end with Jol at the helm. I guess the guru looked great in all those cigar magazine ads and all though.
  12. Hamer Resold it. Siap owns it now.
  13. This one came after the infamous "Larry R." Standard debacle of 2002 or so - basically, a customer ordered a "refrigerator white" Standard, then blew a gasket and caused a huge uproar when he found/thought he found a couple of flyspecks in the white paint. I never saw the alleged defects, but as legend goes, he apparently created such a stink over it that they bought it back and stopped doing white finishes over mahogany/korina for a while: Of course, since then, there have been a number of white over mahogany/korina guitars, but some people (Poe, Jaye) made their requests during the loosely-structured, oddly-reasoned blackout period. Uh no...I tried to get a white Standard before Larry's (Riffmonger's) was approved. I remember when he called me about his order and I was fucking pissed. Riff and I go way back -- in fact, I'm the guy who turned him on to Hamers and we are still friends to this day. Yes, Hamer got a little weirded out about white after that, but I was turned down months before he got his done. Of course that was after he'd already done a few custom orders I believe, so I guess being that it would've been my FIRST custom order, I didn't qualify or something. Jol can kiss my ass and I'm not afraid to say it.
  14. For you? No. If you were in a signed band? Maybe. LOL. Of course he won't build a white for ME! He made that real clear years ago when I ordered one.
  15. Wonder if he'll do a white finish?
  16. Easy to say when medicated. LOL!!! How you feeling bro? i'm ok. DavidB is on his way over w/ the bird, so thats very cool. my meds suck (percocet), they don't give you a buzz, they just dull the pain (my pain is light this week). been on the phone trying to get someone to deliver some smokey treats! Add some tequila to the percs --
  17. Wow. I hate to see people CHOOSE to wallow in negativity but have at it.... You're right, it's just my opinion that the economy is in the tank. I'm just choosing to see the declining wealth of the middle class. I guess from your point of view, you are rolling in the dough and getting wealthier everyday right? Not really. But for me, I can wake up every day and bitch/moan about my circumstances or I can face them head on with optimism, which is what I CHOOSE to do. YMMV obviously.
  18. Wow. I hate to see people CHOOSE to wallow in negativity but have at it....
  19. I just watched some clips of this one on YouTube and it sounds freekin' great! Wow...very nice indeed. I don't know anything this company but man that thing sounds incredible. What speaker cab are you using it with?
  20. Damn dude...sorry to hear and like the others, here's to a speedy recovery!
  21. Nice scores...I particularly like Door Number Two. Very nice indeed...
  22. Why? Because some of us think Jol was an asshole for treating some people one way and others another? Some people think Jol is christ. Others think he's satan. It is what it is and those on both sides have valid reasons for their own personal beliefs as far as I'm concerned.
