  1. A few months back I was starting to work through a hybrid picking book by Gustavo Assis-Brasil. That is about the only new technique that I've been inspired enough to try and to learn. Unfortunately, these days I'm lucky to get to play at all so, most of my playing time is dedicated to staying where I'm at.
  2. I like the way they sound when others are playing thru them, less when I am. The Lonestar I had would be the exception. It sounded great for what it's able to do but, I was looking for something that covered a little more ground without pedals. They seem like quality amps, just wouldn’t be my first choice for the tones I’m looking for. Like any amp, it just depends on what you are trying to get out of it. I will say that Andy Timmons tone on his last release is one of the best I’ve heard and supposedly it’s all Mesa.
  3. No one that matters. That song is played for the female *dancers* who are there to have a good time. I could give two shits about the dudes at the bar with their arms crossed saying to themselves "I could do that better..." What's funny about those guys is that they never play outside of their basement to show the world that they really can do that better.......
  4. Have a good one!!
  5. Happy Birthday!!
  6. Tobe you said both arms but, you didn't say anything about motors. I here you though. What would really suck is if you paid $5k for this and they started doing custom runs for $3.5k. I think I would be more likely to pay $5k for a used one knowing that they weren't making any more, than $5k for a new custom one. I'd be afraid to play a guitar that cost that much. Damn.... how pissed would you be if you dropped a $5K guitar.
  7. The losing bid was less than what $50 off so, I think the value has been established even if the winning bid is BS.
  8. With the bolt-on Calis close to $2k and this one, I can see why Hamer is ashamed of making these piece of shit shredder guitars. You know the ones that go for more than most of thier new ones.
  9. LOL!!! Won by the shill! Legit bidder 2 upped the ante big time though. Way more than my puny $3701 bid for sure.
  10. how much you wanna bet that's a shill bidder? Yeah but this part is kind of weird?? Registered on eBay: Between 3 and 4 years No feedback for a shill bidder's ID. It makes sense. Only one of the 5 bidders to have waited until today to throw his hat in the ring, too. Does seem rather odd that the seller would let someone with zero feedback bid. Still seems weird that they have been registered for threee or more years too. It would make more sense if they had just recently signed up. Maybe atquinn is doing it to thin the potential bidders?

  12. Not the same thing. That one, and the red/orange one posted elsewhere in this thread, are maple bodies. The current auction is a mahogany body with a maple top. I'm thinking that's a one-off, I've never heard of maple-topped Calis before. Probably more rare, but less expensive "back then". Yeah I noticed from the start that it wasn’t a solid maple body, kind of hard not to. While you are right they are not technically the same, I was only using the other as a ball park reference, to gauge the value. I’m pretty certain that my comparison was not as far fetched as comparing it to… say an import Diablo. They are both Cali set necks and that one happens to be only the third I’ve seen in any configuration for sale on ebay. (At least in the years I've been tracking) It won't be long until we find out what it's true value is though.
  13. Anyone remember how much this one went for on ebay a few years back?? It's the only other one I've seen on there. I happen to like it the best of the two. I'm thinking it went overseas and was something like $2475. That was back when bolt-on maple Calis were typically less than a $1000 too. I'm thinking this should be up over $3000 pretty easy.
  14. Happy birthday all!!
  15. I have the 50 1x12 combo. Gave it a workout this weekend against a Splawn 100watt head with a 4x12 at the Guitarwar meetup. I liked the way it sounded better even with only a 1x12 but, damn was that Splawn loud, sounded pretty good too. Oh yeah, congrats elduave on the new line, they make some cool amps. That Edition Tube 20th anniversary seems to get a lot of praise and seems reasonably priced too.
  16. Guess I don't count Besides, I had mine first.
  17. That is a good suggestion and I think there may be a few of those already at the house. I ordered a bunch of the inexpensive Floyd replacement parts just to have, a few years back. (from Stewmac) If I don't already have some, it wouldn't be too hard to swap one of the others to see if it works. Shouldn't be too difficult to see if any of the threads are shot. Hey at this point I don't have anything to loose since the guitar is already unplayable. Looks like it's pretty difficult to find just the base plates? Does the Hamer factory not have them? What about Heli-Coil? Thanks for the help guys
  18. All right, I've heard people talk about this problem before but, experienced it first hand last night. When I went to bend the high E, it dropped pitch big time. I noticed the saddle had dropped as far as the screw would let it. When I went to re adjust the saddle and tighten everything back down, the screw just kept spinning. So, I guess the base is stripped?? What options are there? Just replace the base unit? This is a Hamer labeled Schaller unit, can you still get those from Hamer or just order one from Stewmac? To make matters worse this is on my prize possesion maple Cali, dammit!
  19. I'm usually all about the old school shredder's but, that one kicks major ass!!
  20. From last year
  21. I liked all of the ones that I have played in all respects.
  22. I used a big rack 4x12 setup until 5-6 years ago. These days, I like a good combo amp that you can just grab and go for jams or the rare occasion I do play live. After owning and trying several different variations, I have come to the conclusion that wattage isn’t always the key factor in how good an amp sounds at lower volume levels. Case in point, my Budda Superdrive II is the lowest power amp I own at 18 watts. It will absolutely bury my Orange 30 watt and hold it’s own quite well against my other 50 watt amps. People cannot believe how insanely loud this amp is! Back to the point though, the Budda needs to be louder than any of my other amps to start to get that full low volume tone.(If there is such a thing from a tube amp. lol) I’d have to say that the Orange at 30 watts is the easiest to get a good low volume tone, closely followed by the 50 watt H&K.
  23. The man More recent
  24. Just my experience but, when I played through a Soldano Atomic 16 and Astroverb. I had to crank them both a lot louder than my Orange rocker 30, to get a tone I liked. The Orange is way more versatile too. You can't always reliably go by wattage and figure you will be able to get a good low volume tone. For example my Orange is 30 watts and my Budda 18. I have to crank the Budda a little louder than the Orange to start getting into good tone territory. For low volume bedroom tones you will be pushing the envelope with most tube amps, at any wattage. It seems that most of them regardless of wattage, need to be pushing some air to start sounding full. At that point, you may be well beyond what most people consider a low volume solution. I've had the same issues with using a hotplate. I’d be more concerned about how the master volume works than the actual wattage. I think solid state type amps may have the edge for low volume playing but, then you miss that tube tone. Always a compromise somewhere. Trust your ears as the best solution.
