In an '80's kind of mood today, based on hearing a couple of songs recently that I hadn't heard in a couple hours short of forever. Scratched the itch somewhat by "youtubing" a bunch of Tawny Kitaens' greatest hits, uh, well, I mean Whitesnakes' hits, but then came across one of the few songs of it's genre that I liked back then, and the video is just a masterpiece!. The scene at 2:00 is magic. The equal of anything by Hitchcock, Kurosawa, Bergman or Zeffirelli. The perfect melding of song & subject - a young Jennifer Connelly.

^^^ Appearing tomorrow in beautiful Wauconda, Illinois & tickets available at the door! www.enuffznuf.com

Pulling out one of my favorite under appreciated bands from long ago, and hey, there's Hamer content too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0Xq4gWHfv0 Seems apropos as yesterday marked one year since Doc Neeson died.

^^^ FWIW - I believe I saw that Blackberry Smoke will be opening up for ZZ Top at Ravinia this summer, maybe that will be the case wherever the ZZ's go this tour.

I DO NOT want to know how you knew it was dried mouse urine. Also, to the original poster - the New Jersey connection explains it all.

Thankfully, due to my self imposed abstention from listening to KISS, this was my first time hearing this song. Two things occur to me; 1) I will NEVER do that again, and, 2) Ace must have been listening to "Willie and the Hand Jive" a lot at some point.

Even in a self directed IRA/401K? I'm a little surprised if that's the case -
This is waaaaaaaaay close to me! At 25 in the late summer of 1983 I gave up radio stations that didn't play a lot of "classic rock". Naked Eyes version of "Always Something There To Remind Me" was one thing, but I couldn't endure the endless barrage of Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Prince (yeah, I know that one goes down hard around here, but when you grow up listening to the Yardbirds, the Who, the Young Rascals and others from the age of 8, Prince just blows!). Listening to the "One Of These Nights" album by the Eagles right now, but then, IT IS Don Henleys birthday today.

So if Hamers' catch phrase was "The Ultimate", would Shishkov be "The Definitive"? "The Uttermost"? "The Paramount"? "The Consummate"? Also, how soon before the book? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcOSwyQkzYo

The infamous pinch harmonics -any great moments?

My first thought. Had to be Don Felder on that part. The other guitar part is 100% Glenn Frey. Just Don, his Les Paul, and a cranked Deluxe! - Good taste from you guys, 'cause that's the best that's been done for my 2 cents. -
What's in Scottsdale? I'm thinking one of the large Auction Houses? Fender HQ, and an ex girlfriend of mine. Probably not related to the ex girlfriend.

can I feel any more inferior at playing guitar?

If you didn't think you could feel worse, they've all become fund managers, and now make 20+ million a year! -
Came across this while listening to some 'Off Broadway' on Youtube, while looking over some investment stuff. Bought the album when it came out in '79, back in college, and loved it, especially the covers of 'Under My Thumb', 'Do Wah Diddy Diddy' and 'Who'll Be The Next In Line', but the originals were good too, (Hey, I said it was '79!). Kinda "producie", BUT IT WAS '79! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8p-fXmvQag4

PSA:2001 Standard on eBay
rj2858 replied to Hbom's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
I'd probably be the last to take a shot at what someone prices something at anyway, but in the case of something like this, if you really want a Standard, (and this one is a beauty), what are your choices? Wait for another? Yeah, maybe. Having a new custom order built? Oops - not so much, and if you could, wouldn't the sticker on that say somewhere near $5000? Seeing what people pay for Les Paul R9's and such, is this really too much? If that's what the market is, so be it. If you can't afford it, or don't think it's right, well, my dad paid $2800 for his first new car in 1960, but that ain't coming back either. -
I don't know what's sadder: A) That it'll never be used to it's full capabilities or That you follow Paul Stanley on Twitter

The recent posting of a Hamer J-5 for sale made me think of one of my long-time guitar heros, thus me listening right now to... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLWlqBH9nrU

Those are way nicer than they had to be too. ^^^ THIS!!! I've had one since 2007, and they're great. I'm willing to let mine go, since all I ever reach for anymore is a Daytona and my T-51. IIRC a member here, tobereeno, bought one and had Murkat dress it up with upgrades to bridge, tailpiece and p'ups, and loved it. -
Technically, I should not have input on this, because my direction for the future is to build the things I want, the way I want them, using Warmoth or other manufacturers bodies and necks, and choosing my own pickups, tuners, bridges, etc. But, I do like the idea above. I'd just like to see it with a sustainblock bridge. **edited to correct that I should NOT have input on this subject
-
This is what has been bouncing around my head since I posted yesterday! Need to have a sustainblock (if they sell well, you can always offer a "Trem King", or some other version later). Triplebucker is a MUST. Flat top is a must. Humbucker, P-90 or Strat style neck p'up, Phatcat - whatever. 25.5 inch scale Although it's not a deal killer for me, I agree with Ben on the not-a-fan of the Standard headstock on a Special body, but I could live with it. I like binding, but again, of they sell well, you can always add an upgraded model (complete with maple veneer top, B&C neck too?)
-
Set neck not a requirement in my book, and I'd suggest a Strat body shape for the comfort, accessibility it brings. Ash body works for me too. Hey, why don't I just modify Daytonas to my liking?

Side 2 only - not a fan of side 1, but oh, what a great half an album side 2 is! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSlpeifq9bA

Forget the no buy list. Whats your on your hit list for 2014.

If you didn't say this "tongue-in-cheek", and depending on your choice of pickup configurations, may I suggest that you forget the 'SE', and take a look at a "real" one, like the '92 EG III I listed about a week back? (Weak back? How long you had it? "Oh, about a week back") Nothing new on the slate for me, I'm in selling mode. More on, (moron?), that later , you may be surprised at what gets sold! (and what just got sold - thanks Hamer Dave!). A couple of drop dead investments are calling for me to get every spare dollar in. -
^^^ Thanks for the pix Chris! Locals will recognize the Loop logo that's been around since the late 70's, when WLUP was FM98 (now 97.9) I'm sure some of you will also notice that the boys at Hamer misspelled "Gary" (of Steve Dahl and Garry Meier fame), on the back of the neck. I can remember some of the other DJ's ('Mitch' Michaels and 'Sky' Daniels), but don't recall the others - anyone know? It's a great guitar with absolutely no checking, it's rarely been out of the house, but did spend a night back in 1983, in the hands of Gil Pini, formerly of the "Boyzz from Illinoizz", when he was playing at a club I was managing at the time - The Charlie Club in Mount Prospect, with the band Deluxury. Gil was a buddy of mine, and liked it so much he wanted to trade his new Candy Apple Red "The Strat" for it

Figured it was time to actually take some pix and make a contribution This '80 has a history with me that goes back to 1982, when I saw her in the now long gone Guitar Center on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. Went in with a couple of friends and saw this. Never owned a humbucking pickup in my life, but wanted a Hamer due to Rick Nielsen, and an interview with him back in late '79 or early '80 (Guitar Player?). Ya gotta love black, and if you grew up in the Chicago area, the graphic would put it over the top. The original winner was a drummer, who had no use for it, and after a couple of years traded it for some drum equipment. Some of you may be familiar with her, as I sold her along with Standard #0166, back in 2006, to Flynn guitars in Evanston, when Mike Flynn made me a deal I couldn't refuse. HFC member "Racer X" got custody of this one, and I happened upon his 2009 (?) sell off, not knowing he still had it. When I filled in a few details on the story he told about it, he realized it was me, and contacted me saying it belonged back with me. All original, save for a couple of paint touch-up done by the factory. Sometime after I bought it (1986?), I ran by the shop with a buddy of mine, and when we walked in the door, Jol asks if he can help us. I told him I picked up a used Hamer that had a couple of chips on it, and wanted them repaired. Well, Jol told me that they didn't do that kind of work, but I told him that if he saw the guitar, he may change his mind. Jol smiles and tells me to go get it, and when I got back in the door and opened the case, he saw it and said, "Yeah, we'll do it, I built this guitar!" I asked him about the brass nut, and he told me that he put it on just because he had one. Jol wrote me out a receipt on a Hamer logoed pad (which I can't find, but know that I have - ditto #0166, which I also brought in for some paint chips), with a big "N/C" on it - nice guy! http://s1366.photobucket.com/user/rj2858/slideshow/Hamer%20Sunburst
