  1. Nice to see that the kid that plays 'Jake' on 'Two and a Half Men' has found another job.
  2. Just seemed like a good time to revive this thread when I threw this on. Forgot how much I loved this stuff, and how much I really loved listening to Glen Buxton. Whole album is so good, but this song has got to be Glen's magnum opus, and perhaps the greatest opening riff in rock music, though "No More Mr. Nice Guy" would also be in the top 10 for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vO9rkumtdho
  3. Have to laugh every time I see or hear the term "predatory lender". What, a mortgage lender came up to you with a contract and threatened to kill your family if you didn't take out a loan? Dumbass! If you borrowed more than you can repay - your fault. If you don't know how an adjustable rate mortgage works - your fault. Trying to "steal your home and land'? If you're not paying, it's not stealing, no matter what our current government wants to make you believe. If something bad happened to cause you to not be able to pay - that's sad, but don't blame the lender. Also, that's not Seafoam Green, it's Surf Green - hideous either way.
  4. Veatch nails it, (inadvertently?), by mentioning Off Broadways' 'Full Moon Turn My Head Around' Talk about the 'song within a song', John Ivan comes at you early and often, right up until the end. Best of all? I think it was played on a Hamer Sunburst.
  5. ^^^ No pun intended, right?
  6. You may have missed out on that Studio, but I got just whatcha need right here! Never "miss" again
  7. I belive it's the "Pete Townshend quasi-kill switch thing" since I don't recall anything pre-dating its use on 'My Generation' You nail it on the "changes on the fly" part, but you already know that.
  8. I appreciate the reply, and from cmatthes as well. Did I overreact to a reasonable and tame response from Austin? Yeah, I did. That comes from 2 things. The first goes back about 8-9 months, when I disagreed with a much longer tenured member than myself, about something that I experienced, yet I was being shouted down with opinion being presented as fact. It seemed like others were piling on, more in defense of the member who was taking me on, and not on the merits of the disagreement, or my contention that you can believe whatever you want, but this is what I've seen. Now once is one thing, but it happened again a short time later, and knowing that I'm the last guy to walk away from an argument or a fight, I thought it was better for me to stay away from the HFC for a while. When I came back, I purposely avoided disagreeing with points that many others were on the same side of, figuring it was better than starting an argument. I've said a number of times, anyone can like whatever they want, it doesn't affect my income, but I'd expect that in return as well. In this particular case, I read all of the posts prior to mine, (most after I posted), and see that there were in fact quite a few people who seem to feel similarly to me about Prince, and they weren't being shouted down. OK, thats' fair, and I should have noticed that first. The second thing is that I'm really touchy about people doling out superlatives and since I just can't stand Prince, and don't understand where the 'genius" crap comes from, I just lost it. Sorry boys, dock me a days pay.
  9. I don't know about Appolonia, (but I have some thoughts), but I'm real sure that doing Carmen Electra DOES NOT put you in elite company
  10. ...and his music blows, and it always has. What's that saying about opinions? - Austin Well there had to be something to balance out all the "he's a genius" ass-kissing that goes on every time this douche's name comes up. I was expecting something like this. Seems so typical around here. Agree with the masses, or long established members, or be silent, and all is good, but don't dare disagree. Never say anything negative about KISS, Prince, and a few others, because you saw through the hype, or just plain hate the music, or be fed to the lions. Yet you can't say anything positive about other acts, if it's one of the performers that "everyone" here agrees is only appropriate rip on. You can say you don't like Clapton, Jeff Beck or Hendrix, that's OK, (and I have no problem with that, if you don't like them, fine. I may not understand what you're not hearing, but that's up to you. Likewise, if you like someone, OK, I don't have to agree), but suggest that Prince was a product of media hype, and not a "genius"? Sacrilege! It's like the post a few months back, when someone posted a video of Prince playing 'While my guitar gently weeps' at some fundraiser, and everyone was gushing over it as genius. I don't get it. That's "genius", but the "Beano" album sucked. OK, tells me all I need to know.
  11. ...and his music blows, and it always has.
  12. Glad to see that my innate 'asswipe detection' ability has been right all along. I can't stand this pud, never could.
  13. You're right on target here! American Garage was my first Metheny album, one I got when I was looking for more jazz and fusion stuff. Got it around the same time I got 'Brasilia' by John Klemmer, 'Carmel' by Joe Sample and 'Casino' by Al DiMeola. 'Casino' was the only dog in the bunch.
  14. Al DiMeola - Casino. Yeah, guy could play, but I just couldn't make it through that album - never tried another one either. To those who didn't like "Beano" or Hendrix; I'm guessing that you listened to them well after they came out. No skin off my nose what anyone likes, I don't get how some of you guys like what you do, but I'd guess if you heard them when they came out, you may have felt differently.
  15. I've got a '79 Sunburst that another member is considering, would you be interested if he decdes against it? It's something that I bought with the intention of restoring, but it starts right up and runs as it is.
  16. ^^^ So whenever you guys finish playing 'who's got (or, who is), the bigger penis', can we agree that this girls style looks awfully hard on the boobs?
  17. I'll start by admitting that I just had to 'youtube' Mastodon, and made it through about 30 seconds of the first song I clicked on, called "Oblivion" That said, like Santana, or the song 'Smooth', or not, what does this turds opinion mean, bearing in mind what I just heard his band playing? Talk about a carrot peeler in your ear!
  18. Going by the hat and shirt, were you in the touring ensemble of some 'boy band' back then? I had to look it up to be sure, but it looks like the 'Backstreet Boys' formed in '93. Hmmmmmmm? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL
  19. or how about some vintage DON Stroud? www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjabVmu1nu0 (He plays drummer Jerry Allison)
  20. +1 - Couldn't nail it down any better than your choice of songs! It took me years to find out what made those beautiful sounds on 'Don't Take Me Alive", beyond Larry Carlton and a 335. "Holy Grail" tone for me from a loooooong time ago, and I still love it. Edited - 'onguitar' - really, a Deluxe? When I finally found out what Carlton played, I assumed that he used a Dumble on the Steely Dan stuff.
  21. ^^^^^^^^ Then at least we know they sound good with EVERY guitar imaginable.
  22. Well, for starters, the $85K price tag, one based squarely on the fascination of an affluent generation's males with the likes of SRV, Mayer, Landreth and the other guys mentioned in this thread. For a hobbyist/collector/hero worshipper with money to burn, owning a Dumble has nothing to do with tone. A working musician will get that tone with a Menatone Howie pedal into a Fender combo set clean, and won't have to pay the price of a well-equipped Mercedes Benz to get it. Since you quoted my post, I'm going to guess that you missed the point. I was answering the question "why would you want that tone?", not, why would you want that amp? I don't know why anyone would pay that for an amp if they JUST want the tone. You can easily buy a Fuchs, Ceriatone, or no doubt others, or there is your method, using the Menatone pedal, or my preference, the Ethos Overdrive.
  23. ^^^ The answer (for some of us), would be, why wouldn't you? I'd guess you neither play, nor like, jazz ala Robben Ford or Larry Carlton?
