  1. Phoenix--killer hot sauce (which decorated my chili last night) and acoustic guitar strings JackButler--Intelli-Shred, help with a research project, and being an all-around classy guy BCRGreg--answers to my stupid questions about eBay guitars that I can't afford anyway TomTerrific--recording advice and response to my students' recording project Too many others to list--support and prayers for me and my family when Dad was going through his cancer surgery in August, "virtual" friendship which seems pretty real to me, images of some of the most beautiful guitars in the world that I'd otherwise have never seen, and lots of laughs. I never thought I'd turn into one of those people who hangs out with his friends on the computer, but here I am, typing instead of working!
  2. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I've been dealing with my dad and his cancer battle all year, so I know where you're coming from. Drop me a line if you need to vent.
  3. This will probably tick someone off, but Revolution by The Beatles has a very abrasive guitar tone that grates on my nerves. Also, I think nearly everything I've ever recorded has crappy tone. I don't what it is, but I just can't seem to get it right on tape.
  4. Good news! Glad you're back together.
  5. Yo ho ho . . . and a bottle of rum!
  6. +1 for the ADA MP1. I've had several of these over the years and still love them.
  7. Don't know whatcha call it, but it goes something like this here . . . e--3 b--3 g--o d--2 a--o e--x I see it as an A power chord with a G power chord stacked on top. I use it in place of Am in a G progression.
  8. +1 for the ADA MP1 I no longer have my 80's rig and never took any pictures of it (what a shame). My signal path was: Hamer TLE ADA MP1 (w/ chorus on) Korg Reverb/Delay unit Crown DC150 Laney 412 cab wired stereo That was one badass rig! Way too hard to transport though after I ruined my left knee.
  9. I'll be interested to see some of the answers here. I have a Pro Tools LE Mbox system here at school, but haven't received the necessary computer upgrades to install it. I've heard that the Antares Auto-Tune plug-in is good. I have the rack unit, though, so I won't be buying the software version. If anyone here knows much about the installation process, shoot me an email or pm. I need some info, but don't want to hijack the thread. Now, let those who possess the knowledge let if flow freely for the interested masses!
  10. Why is your shaving cream in your shower?
  11. So my method of rubbing alcohol applied with Q-tips isn't good?
  12. Nuge was in a small club in St. Louis Tuesday night, but I couldn't go. I may be going to see Steve Vai in the same place in April, if the wife decides to be nice to me.
  13. Here's a link to the song I wrote about my dad a while back. It's partly about me, too. The basic story is that some prick was intimidating my aunt and uncle down in Texas back when I was about 10 years old. We happened to be down there visiting at the time, so Dad stepped up and told the guy to back off because he was messing with the meanest sumbitch in Illinois. Mr. Prick backed off pretty quickly and I never forgot seeing my dad stand up for our family. Twenty years later, a song came out of my head. Go figure. No Hamers involved, though. I was temporarily parted with my 86 TLE at the time this was recorded. I used a new Kramer Striker and Nightrider for all but the very last lead, which was done on an acrylic Samick, a Jackson clone w/EMG's. Guitars were recorded direct through a Boss GT-6 or GT-5, I forget which. Edited to correct link. www.soundclick.com/martygibson Go to Music Page and scroll down to The Meanest.
  14. Phoenix, I'm sorry to hear that. Having a parent with it is bad enough, I can't even comprehend going through it with a spouse. Hope all goes well.
  15. Found out Friday that my dad's colon cancer is terminal. They give him two years if he gets a colostomy; I don't know how long if he doesn't do it. Thanks for all the support on the previous thread at the old board. Can't get much better than the folks at the HFC.
