I like the overdrive before distortion. This way I can kick the distortion up a notch if needed. That said it is very rarely needed.

Sounds like you have a microphonic pickup. The cover may be loose. (if it is covered) The cover may have been removed and replaced loosly. Check it out. You can also get it wax potted if it is the coils and not the cover. The pickups should be Duncans of some sort. 59 neck JB bridge as a guess.
