  1. Or, it's an example of how culturally rich America is, since the better music is selling out before making it to the supermarket bins. In the event you're correct, at least we have those like you that are so far above it all that it still averages out in the end
  2. Dire Straights - Making Movies Adele - 21 Slash - Slash Tommy Emmanuel - Little by Little Mavis Staples - You Are Not Alone
  3. +1. I've never heard it expressed as a ratio before, but given the strap attaches to the body anything less than 5-1 (in my guesstimation) could be a bit "dippy". 100% pure speculation on my part with absolutely no hard facts to back it up Ash strats with maple necks have been around awhile and I've not played many that were neck heavy. Someone somewhere must have done the math and figured it's a formula that works out most times. edited to add: A few other numbers....I found a strat neck for comparison as well. Both necks are unfinished with no hardware other than the truss rod. I also incorrectly stated 1.2lbs for the tele neck, it's actually 1lb 2ozs. Strat - Vintage carve - 1lb 6ozs Tele - Thin carve - 1lb 2ozs Schaller locking tuners (chrome) - 8ozs Both necks are all maple, the strat is two piece the tele one piece. I can't imagine the finish would add very much so I can't see either reaching 2lbs fully finished with hardware. A fully loaded strat pickguard is around 12ozs, with strap buttons, neck plate and jack taking it very close to one pound. After all is said and done, it's a 5lb body and 2lb neck, so your guesses at ratio's don't seem as far off as I would have guessed. Whatever weight the finish adds to the body, the end result would be closer to 3-1 than 2-1, but if you're looking for unfinished neck weight to put on a lightweight body, I'd look for something within a few ounces of 1lb vice 2.
  4. The only maple neck I have laying around is from a tele, and it's 1.2lbs without hardware.
  5. Oddly, my shredder days were behind me before I picked up my first Hamer so of the group it's the only brand I haven't tried. Of the others, Jackson beats out ESP and nothing else was in the race for me. I reluctantly let my Soloist go when I outgrew trems before I learned you never outgrow trems. It was just right, in every possible way. Quality was top notch, played and sounded fantastic, great balance and just had that special feel where everything fit perfect. Only problem I ever had with it was the original pots got scratchy within the first year or two.
  6. Anyone with any interest in this thread should find this series of DT video's interesting. I guess this is DT communicating to their fans without MP. Off to a good start I think. Should be at least one more forth-coming. The Spirit Carries On - Episode One The Spirit Carries On - Episode Two
  7. The equivalent of singing in the shower in public. To be completely honest, I don't care to listen to enough of her music to make a legitimate assessment of her "talent", in the same way I don't care to watch Jersey Shore to see if Snooky should be considered the next Meryl Streep. What I have heard/seen says Gaga is reality tv in person. She's certainly found a niche though, so good for her. I also don't go gaga for the Beatles though, so my taste have already been noted as "flawed".
  8. As if her "music" wasn't annoying enough, she talks more than DLR and Paul Stanley combined.
  9. One of my jobs in the Navy was to provide intercept control for fighter aircraft, and Cynic is what the group of instructors labeled me when I went through the school. As goofy as using callsigns always felt, it was quick and easy to say on the radio and couldn't be confused with any of the typical orders or informational calls that were used so it kinda stuck.
  10. If they were to cover Nirvana, I wonder if there would be a discernible difference.
  11. Not taking anything away from the original, but I really like what Jeff Buckley did here Again, the original is pretty freakin good, but Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is scary good. I'll piggy-back on the "Any cover Hendrix did" and throw out "most" anything covered by Marilyn Manson.
  12. +1 What they said. Pretty good bang for the buck in the Blackstar. I own the head and run it thru a closed back 1x12 and have been able to get most any tone I want out of it.
  13. Just further proof that somewhere, there's a market out there for any of us to succeed in regardless of what style we play. The challenge is finding it.
  14. Congrats! Where and when can we start placing our orders?
  15. Ditto, I've used mine with iPhone 4 and an iPad without issue
  16. Yah right. Totally expendable metronomes. Must be true, at least A7X thinks so
  17. "These really will be the ultimate in Red Special copies and this kind of quality does not come cheap. Andrew estimates the cost will be in the region of £6500 - £7000." I think in American dollars that equals SPENDY Found HERE
  18. "©2010 Dantzig Design. Dantzig Design is not affiliated with Hamer Guitars" Don't know him from Adam, but I bet he would find these last ten pages pretty entertaining
  19. His self-esteem is certainly intact.
  20. But don't be like most that charge ridiculous interest rates because Joe Bootcamp doesn't know what it means. The "businesses" near military bases generally cause more financial hardship than need be. Predatory lending didn't start with the housing market. I refuse to support any business that advertises or has signage with words to the effect of "we finance military regardless of rank," or even "military welcome" for that matter.
  21. Thank goodness we have someone here that's qualified to judge what each of us are qualified to speak to so we can avoid any foolish assumptions.
  22. My experience is similar to Fenyman's. I rarely use it for anything expensive, but I've kept a pretty steady rotation, buying and selling 2 or 3 cheaper guitars a year to try the various shapes and styles I don't have in my nicer things. I could probably do much of what I do with regular trips to GC, but this way I get to play with them longer and if I run across one that plays well I can try a few things to see if it's worth keeping. For the obscurities it's worth it's weight in gold. 9 times out of 10 if you can think of something it can be found there. I've also learned many people don't even search elsewhere. When looking for a "pass the pigs" game maybe 7 years ago, I saw them selling on ebay for $15 and up. At the same time, Amazon was selling them for $7.99. I bought four to get the free shipping from Amazon, kept the one I wanted and listed the remaining three on ebay for $0.99. I ended up nearly doubling my $25 and had a "free" game to boot. I don't have the level of sanity (insanty?) required to make a habit of finding weird things to sell on ebay, but there have been numerous times that I've been happy someone else does.
