  1. I'm tempted now, simply because of the massive reduction on the the price. Saving $1404,- on this case would allow me to spend the money on a guitar for it.
  2. Just too many Les Pauls/ LP copies in this world I guess.
  3. In that case I shall stay d-tuned๐Ÿฅฒ
  4. What a cool thread so far. lots of insights. I always wondered about the one piece veneer tops. Good to know that this was generally the case with the early Sunbursts (and Specials, Vectors and Standards?) Maybe the thinness of the veneer would have made it mor difficult to bookmatch the tops? Anyway, took my guitar outside for a shot of the top.
  5. Proud owner of the book I am ๐Ÿ™‚. But I've never seen those sunbursts with the shim in the flesh. I used to be fascinated but the idea of it but it probably is a little less sturdy etc.
  6. A black sunburst is still one of my favourite conundrums! Pretty sure the sustain block is original to this one. didn't look like anythink else was ever installed. would the base plate/ shim have been of the exact same size?
  7. 8 0598 ๐Ÿ˜‰
  8. So here are a couple of pictures of my 1978 b&c Sunburst that I recently aquired. It's an absolute stunner. The one piece neck is definitely on the slimmer side but that is my only concern. Might get used to it. I know it's just a maple veneer but it does look very nice, flames and all, maybe not the depth of a thick piece of maple wood I suppose. it had different tuners installed at some point. Were Grovers that bad in the 70s? The former owner had Grovers reinstalled but you can see the extra holes on the back. Everything else is in excellent condition. The original red plush case has silver hardware, latches and hamer logo in silver too. Didn't know these existed.
  9. Here's mine, a 2024 50s neck Standard.. The rosewood on the neck is really dark which I love. .
  10. Been there done that. Got myself a 50s neck cardinal red Standard in December. It is a beautiful guitar and the neck is just excellent and it's not too heavy, 4,2 kg. The finish and the frets are flawless, onyl thing I noticed later the trussrod cover is a wee bit off-center. I liked it too much already and the price was good. It sounds great and it is a joy to play. I did compare it to three others (another red one, a blueberry burst and an Inverness green one) and this one just stood out. My first proper guitar was a 1992 Les Paul Standard in ebony that I bought in....1992. I still have it. I heard they can be awful, too heavy, badly assembled etc. but they can be awesome instruments too.
  11. 2003, my first Hamer, a greenish 90s special with P90s. I saw (new) in a local shop and traded a 90s Gibson SG for it (that I had received in a trade for a painting. My friend who got thet painting is still upset about it and will mention it at least once a year). This was one of our first gigs as Se Golden Thorsten in Cologne at Stereo Wonderland. I'm sure there is a good reason for verybody in the band looking at me. I probably messed up the song (again). I later traded that for a 90s Hamer sunburst with a broken neck (unbeknownst to me) that I then took to SFO when we moved there. Got the neck fixed and sold it to someone here (full transparency included) and got Steve's b&w Special, which I sold years later and then bought back. At the moment of writing this, I own it ๐Ÿ˜‰ It's gorgeous and my only hamer now.
  12. Two very cool guitars! Jochen is great to deal with!
  13. Technically I'm completely with you, you sound like a reasonable man. Emotionally, I need to see that VECTOR!!!!
  14. The cutaways don't have the correct shape/ curving. It's too pronounced and I think the logo looks like it's off-center. The PU routing looks pretty wild too. My bet would be someone tried to build a special from parts. Then again I hardly know a thing about building guitars ๐Ÿ˜‰ My b&w special that I got from Serial does not have a serial number btw ( go figure ๐Ÿ˜œ) I thinkt he yellow on black stamo wasn't the greatest idea although it looks cool and sometimes necks got refinished (broken headstock etc) though I don't think that's the case with mine.
  15. Best of luck for the journey. I've used DHL before for a similar journey and it worked just fine. Any guesses how long it might take? 10 days?
  16. So this is a clone, not made by hamer then? Iโ€™m confused now.
  17. The hell... wanna know all about it... how do you "pick" these things up? mind-blowing!
  18. I thought for a minute this was about the future of music in the eye of "Artifical Intelligence" or rather machine learning๐Ÿซฃ Kinda glad is not.
  19. The checkerboard V is just gorgeous!
  20. Well... I think Mike is pretty much carrying the torch for Hamer with his Shishkov custom guitars, so this is an obvious favourite of mine and the other has to be Nik Huber. Hes work ist amazing, even though I would say I prefer the slightly "simpler" builts. Love my Krautster II. Then again they have built amazing flamtops and they have an incredible eye for detail.
  21. Thanks for the heads-up. I was not aware of Couch nor did I know they could personalize guitar straps. I ended up ordering three straps for my band as a surprise ๐Ÿฅธ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ˜Ž.
  22. We'll be hearing a lot of old music in the future, that's for sure ๐Ÿ˜‰
  23. my bad. you know where to find me๐Ÿ˜
  24. Excellent, congrats!!! Now how about that one in/ one out rule that so many people speak of? ๐Ÿ˜‰
