  1. And how did you like them? As to the price, I think even though the 60's Epiphones might be rarer, they would sell for less for the simple fact that the headstock does not read: Gibson. That's just the way the market is I guess.
  2. Wow! Nice.....but that's a Gibson right?
  3. After doing some quick research................... I think eventually I'll buy a hollow-body, and I'll probably stick to a Newport!
  4. Hi guys, Looking at the vintage market, it seems there are still some reasonable prices to be had if you are willing to go off the beaten path a little bit. The Gibson "jr." line are more sanely priced than their other stuff, and the older hollow-bodies are something I could see myself picking up at some point. Browsing around, this guitar caught my eye: http://12fret.com/used/EpiphoneCasino1puSN310094.jpg It's a '65 Epiphone Casino, priced at $2200 Can. To me, that seems pretty good. In fact, I would seriously consider it if I hadn't gone through a recent buying spree. Is this a pretty common price for the older Epiphones? The only real drawback I see with this Guitar is that it only has one pickup up. Obviously, I know that Epiphones are not as collectible as Gibsons. Still, I'm pleasantly surprised by that price. Anyone out there who has an older Epiphone? Nice guitars? I really don't know too much about them, except that the Beatles had some. When did Gibson take them over anyway? Thanks as always for the info!
  5. Yes, they do. It's called a Gibson.
  6. Tell us more about Rockland Amps. I did a google search, but couldn't find anything. Thanks. Quote: DavidE: I have a Tim and a Timmy and many others. But right now I'm using a Bluestone by Rockland Amps (my brother's new venture), a rotating bunch of drives and my Line6 M13 which really could do it all.
  7. I have one of those as well and it's great. I picked up a modded Blues Driver last week and I'm not quite sure about it yet. I need to try it at some different settings. DavidE, I think you mentioned before that you have a Timmy. Is that your favourite OD box? How much do those go for used? thanks.
  8. Checking out their website, cool stuff! Do you use his Beano Boost Johny?
  9. I've heard good stuff about Analog Mike. Can you tell me a little about what he sells? Thanks.
  10. Was it expensive? Quick turnaround? They are selling a modded Boss DS-1 at my local shop, $100 Canadian, about hmmm.......what's the exchange right now, about $90 US. Good deal?
  11. Hi guys, Has anyone out there used any of the Robert Keely stuff? He makes his own pedals, but also sells a lot of modded stuff. Prices seem pretty reasonable. Looking to get a couple distortion/overdrive boxes to add some flexibility while keeping in the $130ish ballpark. Thanks! edited to add: Here's his website: http://www.robertkeeley.com
  12. I just bought a new Newport Pro (Vintage Natural), to keep my PRS Custom 24 company. Though, I'm enjoying playing the Newport Pro more. I never thought I would like a neck as much as the PRS, but in comparison to the Newport Pro, I'm finding the PRS a little too thin now. Regarding the brightness, I changed the tubes in my Fender Blues Jr.. I bought a replacement kit from eurotubes and it softened the brightness considerably. Made it a bit more flutey, though not overly. Also gave me cleaner lows as well. And I am finding that it's all about finding the right setting combination on the guitar and the amp. One thing I noticed, and I may be out to lunch on this, is that my touch matters moreso than on the PRS. What I mean is that the way that I play this and massage or attack the strings has so much more of an effect on the sound, which I like. It really forces me to become involved more. That may make absolutely no sense. Makes sense to me, I got it. Now I want a Newport even more!
  13. They are from neck to bridge: "sweet", "kinky", "nasty" and "you filthy whore say my name". Sounds like a fun guitar!
  14. Maybe make some trades? Hamer something for Hamer tally?
  15. Awesome! I'm jealous, I live in Canada, but on the other end of the country. Pretty expensive to make it out to Vancouver and Calgary where I am, in Ottawa, so I've never made the trip, but I will someday. Have lots of fun while you are there. I think you'll find that Vancouver is a lot more liberal and laid back, whereas Calgary is a little more conservative. Both towns should be a lot of fun. rob ...but next time you should come to Montreal, really. Montreal is a great town!!! Especially in the summer. Jazzfest, Just for laughs festival.....and the women! Ah...gotta love French women.

  17. How long did it take you to put together? Did you find it fun, or a pain in the ass?
  18. Wow, went to the Warmouth site. They have some awesome stuff. Some of it is quite a bit more expensive than I thought it would be. But they are some very cool stuff in their "screaming deals" section. Here is a thinline tele body that they are selling, I think it's pretty sharp. $195. 19. Ummm......I don't think you have to worry too much about that. You guys rule the world, and will for the next little while at least. More Hamers and less MacDonald's please!
  20. Cool colour, and I love that pickguard! Is that stock?
  21. Wow! Awesome info guys. I will copy and paste these comments into my hard drive so I can keep them on file. HFC Rocks!!!
  22. Hi guys, I'm really interested in starting some guitar projects, maybe start of with a parts Telecaster style, and then eventually even building a set neck style from a kit or something. I know some guys out there are into this kind of thing. What kind of tools are required? Can you suggest any websites or books for a novice? It's a long term thing, but I'm really interested in building my own dream guitar. It would be a lot of work, but I think it would be great fun. It would be a nice change of pace from my job in the cubicle! Where do you get the wood pieces, and what are the costs involved? Thanks guys! rob b.
  23. Have you, or anybody you know, tried a Gustavsson? I'm wondering how much is hype, and how much is accurate. I think last time I looked, there was like a 2 year wait for them, and used I've seen for sale ads I think in the neighbourhood of I think it was 8 grand, or maybe it was as high as 10 grand. Besides from archtop jazz guitars, I don't think I've ever seen a new guitar selling for that much. (except the stupid Fender reissues, ie Blackie, Van Halen's strat, whatever, the "collectible guitars".
  24. I've been using D'addarios for years. Maybe I'm missing out on something? Hmmm.....I don't know. I see a big difference in sounds for strings for acoustic, but for electric, I'm not sure it's going to make too much difference. As long as they stay in tune, it's ok for me. I used Ernie Ball when I first started, now D'addarios. Honestly, the only reason I use the D'addarios is the so called "environmentally friendly" packaging, but who knows if that makes any difference either. Sucks about the Snake Oil, I've heard similar complaints over at the Gear Page over the last year or so.
