PSA: TRAINWRECK FS
sonic1974 replied to kizanski's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
You'd figure a guy who could afford a '59 Les Paul and that amp could afford to pay a little more for production values on his video! -
Studio? Archtop GT?

Another clown who won't admit he's got an import
sonic1974 replied to sonic1974's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Shows you the guy was trying to be a little shady...He told me, "I don't have any pictures, you'll have to come and try it yourself." Oh well. I'm not gonna waste any time trying to talk some sense into him. I was just hoping it was a Newport, man those look awesome! Love to get my hands on one of those babies someday. -

sonic1974 replied to sonic1974's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
That's what got me going in the first place. The guy says, I don't know what the name is, but it's not an Echotone, I tell you that! WTF. It' an Echotone. Guy's talking out of his ass. He told me, come by and try it out, has to be played to be believed. No thanks buddy. I agree with Kizanski, I can't really flag him for anything. Can't flag people for asking too high a price. rob -
Another clown who won't admit he's got an import
sonic1974 replied to sonic1974's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I don't know if I should flag him. He never claimed it was American. He just never properly explained it was an import. Should I flag him? Never done that before. I don't think its pure fraud, more ignorance. Kinda of a funny situation. -
Hi, On my local Craigslist, somebody had listed that the were selling a "Hamer 335 Copy". He was trying to get 700$ for it. I thought he might have meant a Newport or maybe an Artist or something. So I emailed him for clarification. Turns out he's another guy trying to pass of a run of the mill import for something "special". Remember that guy who caused such a funny thread a couple of months back, claiming his import was specially made and all that? "It's was a custom order from Hamer. I contacted the company a couple of years ago to inquire about it. I thought it was an EchoTone, but it is not. The company could not trace the serial # because it was made in Korea and it was custom ordered. But, they did verify that it is certainly not an EchoTone. That's about all of the background that I have on this instrument." Man, what a sleazy thing to do in my opinion. The guitar is made in Korea, therefore it's an import. As good value as some imports are, they are priced less, and that's just the way it is. I sure hope that somebody doesn't pick up a guitar sold under conditions like that thinking they're getting a top of the line Hamer.

Cool band, great tone Thin Lizzy

GREAT TUNE!! -
That is awesome! Love that headstock. BTW, a lot of people on the gear page whine about the normal Hamer headstock, I don't get it, I like that one too. rob

Hi guys, That thread about Kiss got me thinking about Thin Lizzy. I don't actually know them super well, but always loved their guitar tones. Even before I got a guitar, I would hear their tunes on the radio and think, what the heck is that, the guitar sounds awesome! I gotta get me some Thin Lizzy cds, where's a good place to start? What kinda equipment were those guys using? I'm guessing some great Les Pauls for a start. peace, rob b.

"Problem is [concerning Paul McCartney], the topic is rock bassists. Now, had you say POP bassists..." Here's my view (only me YMMV) pop, rock, rawk, punk, ......who cares, as longs as you love it, listen to it and play it! No music is "pure" everything is a mix of other elements. rob

Anybody checked out that new Seymour Duncan P-Rails?
sonic1974 replied to Lockbody's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
"I'm not all that handy with a soldering gun......." Really? You'd think after swapping out a hundred pickups, you'd be a pro by now!   -

Tone report, please. I'm very intrigued by this contraption. They're not out yet, but I'll be buying some as soon as they're available, so I'll let you guys know if I think they're any good or not. -Austin Atquinn, you are really into changing pickups. I'm getting the feeling it's kind of a obsession for you. Not that it's bad mind you! I admire your quest for the exact tone that you are hearing in your head. Does it get to be a pain in the butt in after a while, or do you enjoy the hunt? I'm hunting around for a new set of pickups for my SC. I'm not totally happy with the sound of the Seymour Duncun in the bridge position. I hope I don't have to go through a bunch of different sets before I find "the one". I'm actually very happy with the pickups in both my Studio Customs, but these pickups intrigue me and my Studios are the only guitars I have that I can try them out in. I could try them in my other Studio, but if they sounded good there, I'd be forced to put them into my 06 Studio anyway (it's my goto guitar), so I'll just start there. Plus buying and selling pickups is alot cheaper than buying and selling guitars! -Austin Good point there man, never thought of it that way. That's kind of what I was thinking for my amp, I changed the tubes, and now I bought a Eminence Governor spearker to replace the so so Celestion 70\80 in it. Trouble is I'm not too handy with a sodering gun, guess there's no time to learn like the present. rob p.s. I love that no inlay look on your studio, always thought it was totally unique. Probably better for playing I was thinking, gets you out of ruts I could imagine. I know for myself, sometimes I'm lazy, and put my fingers at the inlays, without thinking. Sometimes I make the mistake of playing with my eyes rather than eyes. Is that part of the reason you did it like that, or just cause you liked the look (which is very cool). -

Sounds like a cool idea. I wonder if it works they way they say it will? -
Yeah, that's definitely where McCartney made his mark with bass--his melodic inventiveness, while still keeping the groove and propelling the song. Just the stuff he made up on Sgt. Peppers is amazing. Listen to Lovely Rita, With a Little Help from My Friends, Fixing a Hole, etc. In an entirely different realm, how about Bootsy Collins, Chuck Rainey, and Randy Jackson? Damm right about Bootsy Collins! Don't forget James Jamerson if we're talking about funk and r and b. rob

I thought Flea was a little flashy on the early albums. For some songs it was cool, sometimes it was kind of a distraction. But on their last couple of albums, his style has really gotten more fluid and melodic. Him and Les Claypool really got a lot of kids interested in playing bass. I'm putting in another vote for Paul McCartney. One of the most melodic bass players that I've heard. But let's face it, if you don't like the Beatles (and I'll never understand anyone who doesn't  ) you won't think much of his bass playing. Another guy I love is Mike Mills from REM. More pop than rock I guess, but still one of my favourites. rob

Glad it turned out ok! That's an awesome looking Standard, time to rock out, play it really loud to bug those asshole neighbours! rob b.

Sentinel, I was checking out your blog. Man, those are some beauty guitars, you're a lucky guy! rob b.

Your best Hamer purchase 2007 - with pics!
sonic1974 replied to Sentinel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
That is awesome! How do you like it? I'd love to get one, I'll have to wait a couple of years until the price comes down on them. I'm not giving up my Studio Custom for one! ha ha My Studio Custom, I got it off of our own DavidE. I'll post pictures later on when I create a photo hosting account. It's my favourite, and the best guitar I've ever owned. It kicks the ass of the 72 Goldtop LP with the minihumbers I used to have back in the day. Long live Hamer!!! -
Which model of Larrivee do you have? I've played a couple, and I really loved them. I'm shopping around for a new acoustic in the next couple of months, around in the 2000$ range. I'm leaning towards Larrivee now, but I'm not stuck on it. I'm going to get a used one though, that's pretty much my policy when buying guitars, you get a better deal everytime. rob

Have you seen this one on Ebay? 1980 model. You folks out there would know this, do the sunbursts of that time usually have skinny or fatter necks? Check it out (hope the link works). http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...A:IT&ih=014
