  1. ^^ Wow! This place is just the best (still) ^^
  2. I'm subscribed to his Seller account - interesting stuff pops up there now and then.
  3. ^^ Mind boggling! And so incredibly listenable / musical ^^ Fascinating to me that he takes a song well beyond my technical ability and then riffs multiple variations without ever sounding contrived or redundant - every phrase is fresh and taken into a new direction. Absolute genius.
  4. STILL kicking myself over the one on the left. In my excitement I called my daughter the minute it went up for sale (since I should have bought it when Serial offered it up all those years ago). She said, "why don't you just buy it already?!" Yes, why didn't I?
  5. I tried 9's on both scales after watching the Beato / Shull video (they were fond of 8's that I couldn't get to work at all). Everything was out of tune due to my ham-fisted lack of technique. The strings don't pop back fast enough so there were timing issues. It was a mess. So, I loaded everything back up with 10's and my Strat is great, but the Les Paul of all things feels desperately stiff, even top-wrapped - go figure... I've concluded it comes down to what you're used to. Maybe if I'd suffered through the 9's long enough I might have been able to make them work, but I am not that patient. Lots of recommendations for the 9.5's. For the cost of one set, definitely worth a try.
  6. I would absolutely contact Reverb. What was the sending URL on the NoReply inbox?
  7. Really old photo of my first two Hamers. Would buy them back if I had the chance.
  8. BITD I had the same attitude about Winger as did Beavis and Butthead, but I will go back and give it a listen as over the years many on this board have expressed positive opinions on Kip in particular. I'll report back with my findings. RE complexity: I had a fantastic revelation along those lines watching a Late Night Lessons YouTube video on Robin Crosby's arrangement in Ratt songs. As far as we all were paying attention, Warren DeMartini was the main attraction (he went "meedly, meedly" on a snakeskin guitar for cryin out loud!). When David Brewster started going through some of those seemingly simple Ratt tunes I was blow away by the complexity - complex, but extremely musical rather than just for complexity's sake.
  9. Is this the origin of the Cathrine the Great rumor?
  10. This would be a much simpler project had it not been "fixed" already. It might be a pill to undo the "fix" depending on what adhesives were employed. To the plus side, those cases are pretty hard to come by; the truss rod covers even more so.
  11. Deleting a thread is simple. In a thread you originated (this one, for example), go to the initial post and at the right you'll see a "Moderation Options" drop down. Click that and "Delete" is the only option.
  12. Did I read somewhere (or maybe it was a video) wherein Bonamassa claimed to know where the Beano Les Paul was and that he'd played it? <Googles...> Oh yeah! Exclusive: Eric Clapton's 'Beano' Les Paul is "in US collection", claims Joe Bonamassa | MusicRadar
  13. The documentary narrative differs from the Wikipedia narrative.
  14. Along those lines, I can't recommend enough the recent Max (HBO for us old timers) four-part documentary on Stax. The first episode is an amazing story of starting a country and western recording studio in a black neighborhood in Memphis, only to be overtaken by the amazing talent existing within blocks. The last episode came as a complete shock as I had no idea what actually happened to Stax - scandals at both CBS and Union Planters Bank.
  15. Weird effect in this photo on the seventh fret marker. But fine in this one: Interesting they're square like a Les Paul Custom rather than crowns
  16. When they morphed away from funk and into the soft stuff, we referred to them as the "Commode Doors."
  17. Have a look at the "erroneous" wiring relative the tone control (notice where the tone control lead enters the circuit), then have a look at my thread on 50's wiring. Might that be what's going on? I will not go back!
  18. Amazing! Where'd you find that? Murray State University student center was a regular stop for Lonnie Brooks (and son) in the late 80's. That must have been pre-Hamer as he played a Strat most of the time, occasionally switching out for a Les Paul (both wrapped in those Axe-Sack thingies). His son always played a thinline Telecaster. They were always fantastic.
  19. Tha link! Seriously enjoyed the only one of these I've ever owned. Mine measured 10.5k. They're just enough more, but not too much more.
  20. Always awesome, @Brooks! My favorite version of the song is by Brown Sabbath: It's the horns!
  21. Welcome. Loads of information here (see the drop-down menus at the top).
  22. Those were the OEM pickups in the Shishkov Ultimates - magnificent pickups. Just enough / not too much / detailed / thick /
  23. The free one received for a Stamps.com trial. Seriously. It's pretty good for letters; not large enough for packages. We couldn't use Stamps.com because we use windowed envelopes for checks. Ever run a windowed envelope through a laser printer (to print the Stamps.com postage)? The fuser melts the cellophane window! 😄🙃😡
  24. Always love a challenge. On TGP, user VaughnC. 😉 Found some accolades of his work mentioned along with Analogman.
