  1. We watched the DVR'd episode last night. Wife said, "who's that?" I said, "one of the main reasons guys in my generation decided to pick up a guitar in the first place, Ace Frehley!" Silence... "The original lead guitarist in Kiss" Wife: "Oh. He looks really old..." ETA: the posted video did not make the broadcast (unless there were some DVR remote control hi-jinks going on).
  2. Now I am wounded. If only Brent had bought it. Then at least I'd have another chance in a few weeks. Nathan is like the Island of Misfit Toys only without the "Misfit" part. Congratulations!
  3. You could always just increase by one the number of guitars you allow yourself to have. Just spend, don't analyze. You're in no danger of turning into Nathan. I don't have many guitars at all and I really REALLY like what I have. Kiz Senior - what can be said? After a pickup and cap change it's like magic. Exactly what I wanted when I sold the tiny-necked '80 Special. VHRRI Strat - took me a solid year to find one in next to unplayed condition in Sherwood green. Neck is an inch thick from nut to 12th fret in a perfectly shaped C. A most comfortable guitar to play (you know, you had a white one!). Gibson Howard Roberts - I've had it now over 20 years and with the Lollars and trapeze tailpiece it's just right. Plays so easily I feel like I'm cheating every time I pick it up. That's it except for two basses - the battered but oh-so-comfortable '82 Cruisebass I picked up last year and the as-unplayed '97 Deluxe P I've had since my bass odyssey began four years ago. The Senior really has turned out brilliantly. I don't think anyone would be willing to pay the sentimental premium I'd need for Howard (my daughter's favorite of any I've ever had). No way is the Cruisebass going anywhere for the pittance I have in it. Hence, my only play would be either the Strat or the P-Bass... ETA: it must not be forgotten I am gladly and proudly on the hook for the second installment of a Shishkov Ultimate!
  4. Some of us are Shishkov-poor at the moment... and gladly so! I'm really struggling with this one. More than anything on the Board in a long time. Lately I've been playing my old beat up Cruisebass and telling myself I could let my super clean P-Bass go to fund this. Crazy talk, but it's really starting to make sense. The only other play I've got is to sell my Strat, but it took fahevah to find a VHRRI in Sherwood Green! Struggling! Yes, struggling!
  5. Even in a self directed IRA/401K? I'm a little surprised if that's the case Yep, even in a self-directed IRA. We've been discussing preparations to purchase real estate (definitely allowed using a few precise legal steps), but personal property is a different matter altogether. Too bad.
  6. Definitely sustainable - Brazil alone is covered in mango trees! Very beautiful grain - I would be interested to play one.
  7. Thought I had this licked: let my IRA buy it as an investment! "Not allowed" was the response from my adviser guy. If this is still here in 9.5 years and 19 days, it'll be a different story!
  8. Look to the right of the brushed plastic piece: Rear Control Cavity Cover Shown in Brushed Aluminum Anodized$23.00 Edited to remove a bunch of hidden HTML coding brought over with a cut-and-paste. Edited to also add: Mitch, I didn't see your claim to fame last night on my tiny iPhone screen. Magnificent! Congratulations! Edited a third time to add for Baz: Not Feynman (III)'s site. His remark was noting his custom-ordered truss rod cover displayed in the Custom Engraving section at the lower right of the page.
  9. Fear not. Someone will pipe in momentarily with just what you're looking for. If not, Frets on the net has them: http://www.fretsonthenet.com/Fender/hamer.htm
  10. If you're not too concerned with the pots being '82, BCR Greg has Hamer pots: 717.730.9775 (Same value/taper as in '82). The good news is any of the triangular Hamer control cavity covers will work - they're all the same. More good news: the OEM DiMarzios (unless it came with EMGs, in which case you don't need Hamer 500k pots) are still being produced P and J. I'd like to find an original case, as well, but the last one that came up was more spendy than I was willing to go. My '82 has black top hat knobs; those are pretty easy to find and very inexpensive. You have a truss rod cover! If not for the gracious generosity of HFCer Crunchee, mine would be without. Very hard to locate those.
  11. That KL380 continues to haunt me - it was exactly right in so many ways. To have that configuration and the beautiful top on this one... it's just too much and I likewise need to stop clicking on this thread. I've pared down where I just don't have any 'extra' guitars to let go to fund this. Still, this is so tempting!
  12. The Regular D neck is exactly what was on the KL380 - it was sublime! This is officially killin' me!
  13. Reminds me of the KL380 I fell in love with at GC a few years back. With the volume knob on around 7.5 it was a spectacular (if somewhat beefy) Strat, then you had all these other possibilities beyond that. Please don't tell me it has the wide/fat neck!
  14. Definitely some Hamers on the wall in this photo (unfortunately no direct facing photos of that wall). Depending on the age of that photo, there could be a more than a few Hamers there, maybe even a Standard.
  15. Veneer over chambering? The veneer on my old Special appeared too delicate to cover chambers. I'd envisioned the chambering would require a thicker top.
  16. The interwebs say ARP went belly up in 1981. Korg is bringing back the Odyssey. The ARP founder is now CEO of Carbonite. Go figure... Synthmuseum (a cool site!) says Multivox folded in the "early 80's."
  17. Talking about the Multivox ads? Yep, that's a little less than PC right there...
  18. Redundant, That was.
  19. Shishkov USA
  20. I'm still trying to figure out what color, but in keeping with the original proposal, have limited my choices to those offered. I'm torn between a dark sunburst (aka Bubsburst) and vintage natural. I posted pics of some beautiful specimens found in the Standard Appreciation Thread... oh, here they are: Forgive me for the re-post, but I just love to look at these guitars!
  21. Beautiful! Almost a shame to chamber such a beautiful chunk of wood! The logos are fantastic. Just the right amount of what I'd call "heritage reference," but plenty different to avoid being derivative. Can't wait for a T-shirt!
  22. There are some who call him... Tim!
  23. He turned me into a newt!
