MTM105 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 (edited) Age old question. Is it not? I’m not sold on BOSS CE-1. Seems soft & transparent. I have a Budda Chorus I can retry… 3-4 decades searching tone. I don’t know if there is a good Chorus. Minus spending thousands $$ on a rack. I have TC Electronics Nether I prefer. It does Octaver, but sounds closer to a Chorus. Edited September 11, 2024 by MTM105 Quote
RobB Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 H.B.E. THC chorus. Thick, chewy, and slight signal boost. Buy mine: $100 shipped. 3 Quote
Jimbilly Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 I've been enjoying the MXR Analog Chorus, it seems I can adjust it so that it sounds 'big' without sounding obviously like a chorus. Quote
veatch Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 I really like the Catlinbread Callisto. There's an MKII version out now. No idea if it is a good as the original. Quote
Jakeboy Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I have Keeley Dynomyroto that works for me on those very rare occasion where I actually want chorus. Quote
BadgerDave Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 (edited) I've been through about a dozen. I've settled on the Boss Waza CE-2W. It's punchier and fuller than the CE-1 with some nice added features. Sounds huge split into 2 amps. To quote Boss: The CE-2W’s Standard mode faithfully recreates the classic CE-2 chorus sound, and adds an expansive new sound field with stereo output, which was unavailable in the mono CE-2. CE-1 mode fully reproduces the stereo chorus and vibrato sounds of the legendary CE-1, with the addition of variable chorus depth not available in the original pedal. Bennyboy-UK Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I love the Boss Dimension DC-2w but also the super cheap TC Electronics equivalent which is mono only but only cost me £30 delivered! Quote
Disturber Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I never understood chorus pedals. Have a very old 80's CE-1, never use it. But I found that I can adjust a weird wobbly chorus on my Supa Puss delay, like a chorus with the feeling of someone that dropped a little amount of acid. I also like to put my flanger in a kind of dirtier chorus mode. Again, sounds like the pedal is on drugs. Not a nice chorus effect, more like something David Lynch would dial in. Those chorus sounds work better for me, the ones no one else likes. Go figure. 1 Quote
VECTOR Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 The Chorus in my Eventide H3000 is thick and round and rich. The best Chorus IMHO. Quote
it's me HHB Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 That keeley 12 string beach boys pedal has the best Alex Lifeson chorus I've ever tried, weird I know but it's perfect if you want classic Lifeson style 1 Quote
veatch Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Red Witch makes a good one as well. I think it was the Empress? 4 Quote

hamerhead Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 The other guitar player in the band has a Boss CE-2 that I thought sounded fantastic (and tried to pry it from his greasy little fingers....). I use a Boss BF-2 flanger. If you dial it back far enough it makes great chorus sounds. The Eventide MicroPitch also makes amazing chorus-type noises and it's stereo, so......huge. 4 Quote

I found it a bit too, “polite”, for lack of a better term. The vibrato mode was pretty good, FWICR. My fave Red Witch pedal is the Moon Phaser. So many great sounds. 2 Quote
Jeff R Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I have an original CE-2 from May 1983 and a Fulltone Choralflange from 20ish years ago. I prefer the CE-2's voice because I'm a child of the 80s and that baby blue pedal's shimmer is seemingly on every guitar track recorded by every guitarist regardless of genre that entire decade and subsequently in my DNA. But the Choralflange is really close ... and it flanges too! More Choralflange coolness ... I got mine from my pal Joe out in Phoenix, who is both the brother-in-law and the guitar tech for the Doobie Brothers' Patrick Simmons. Joe's CF was on Patrick's board for several years before Joe sold it to me. Those tape slivers are their actual settings hashmarks. It goes without saying I can now absolutely nail that swooshy modulation during the halftime break in "Listen To The Music." 5 Quote
RobB Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Joe was one of my instructors at Roberto-Venn. I sold my Choralflange. Quote
