Steve Haynie Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 I never got in a fight, but I was told to back off by the other guys in the band who were NOT setting up the PA while they were drinking beer and having dinner with all the friends they let in for free. I was hungry, sweaty, and tired from doing ALL the work right up to showtime, and I was supposed to not say anything? Maybe I should have had my own Perry Farrell moment. 4 1 Quote
django49 Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Just once. At a basement rehearsal. LONG ago. Our singer suddenly took a dislike to me (or something). Charged me with fire in his eyes and fists raised. Maybe not the wisest thing to do toward someone turning around and holding a hefty Les Paul in his hands. (Yes, it was the original '56 GT). He went down, No other damage, though the G string mighta gone outta tune. That was the last night for that band. Yes, alcohol was involved..... 3 1 Quote

Similar story - AFTER a 4 hour afternoon gig on blacktop on a 100° day, the other guitar player disappears while the three of us grunt gear. I was dead, with one of them pounding headaches you get from too much sun/heat/beer, and when he showed back up as the trailer doors were being shut, I ripped him a new one. No punches, but I gave him the frowning of a lifetime. 2 2 Quote

scottcald Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 The alleged story I read was that he couldn't hear himself, others were too loud onstage. Last I checked, the protocol was look at the monitor engineer, point to yourself and point up and they'd turn you up. Seems like those 6 seconds would've been a better use of time. 4 Quote

Disturber Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 https://metalinjection.net/news/breakups/janes-addiction-to-take-some-time-away-as-a-group-cancels-tour Farrell has issued the following statement: "This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday's show. Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation." Navarro, Avery, and Perkins also issued their own statement, saying: "Due to a continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour. "Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs. "We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets. We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. "Our hearts are broken. Dave, Eric and Stephen." You would think things like that would have been worked out at the sound check. That’s if everyone actually shows up for sound check. 5 Quote

If everything is too loud, turning up louder does not necessarily work for singers. 1 Quote

True, but of course, to me, in the moment, I also wouldn't walk toward whatever is too loud. That stage was pretty big. Quote
Jimbilly Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 The Motorhead documentary explained their joke about "everything louder than everything else" as their solution to monitor mixes. Some people are just too difficult to regularly interact with, especially when regularly 'medicated'. I used to watch 'behind the music' videos, it's nearly the same story over and over again. 2 Quote

If it were up to just him, he’d be back on tour… but it’s not up to just him. The consensus opinion was that he had not recovered sufficiently to be able to perform at the level the fans have come to expect. Bruce respected that opinion and is grateful that Matt has been around to keep the Wagon rolling through the summer tour. Bruce never had any intention of retiring or walking away from the band, fans, and crew he has loved for almost 50 years. For Kevin’s part, he too has never had any intention of leaving the band, and the fans and crew mean the world to him, as well. Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin. So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025. Neal, Kevin, and Bruce thank their fans for all their years of loyal support and for giving back to the band such wonderful memories that will remain with each of them forever. 2 Quote
Brooks Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 After watching the video, I went back and reexamined their catalogue on Spotify. Yep, still don't like them (ok, Mountian Song is cool). Esp don't like his vocals. 4 Quote
