donner Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 (edited) Them guys talking back & forth about an interesting acoustic and electric shootout between an early Dean Elite and Tom's 58 Burst. Both of the guitars sport Gibson PAFs. A bit of philosophing about Dean, BC Rich and Hamer being strong contenders to Gibson in the late 70s and early 80s by people that know a thing or two about guitars. Well worth watching the conversation any minute. Edited September 16, 2024 by donner 6 Quote
Rich_S Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 I watched it today. Them boys know a bit about geetarz. Quote
ARM OF HAMER Posted September 18, 2024 Posted September 18, 2024 (edited) Saw that....................... I always watch the boys at Gruhn's. Interesting take on those 2 guitars, Dean was making some great and unusual guitars back then. I had a friends early Cadillac for playing gigs at one point and that was a fine guitar, I don't know how the current models are. I DO remember that guitar was HEAVY! The Dean and the Burst do have a very similar sound..................they sure are different in price! The real PAFs in the Dean are worth more than the guitar itself. I had no idea that Dean used Gibson PAF's back then. A friend of mine had bought a Cadillac back when they first came out. Quote

Absolutely..................it is mentioned in the video that Greg installed those pickups when he bought that guitar, it didn't have any pickups. That guitar would have had DiMarzio pickups in it originally. Edited September 19, 2024 by ARM OF HAMER 1 Quote

Disturber Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I would have loved to have seen a 4 digit or a 79 Sunburst in that comparison. It would have spanked that fork shrimp on the butt. 2 Quote

Would have been an interesting comparison and a fair competition. Edited September 20, 2024 by donner Quote
