Travis Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 So, this has been a long time coming. A few years ago I grabbed a couple of oak tops from some bourbon barrels and gave to my brother to use them for some tele bodies he was going to cut for us. Well, he built his right away and 4 years later he finished mine…. 🙄 Anyway…. He cut the body, I sourced the parts, finally got it wired up and playable today. Here are the specs: 2” thick body: 1” ash back, 1” oak barrel top from a Makers Mark bourbon barrel. Chambered back and top on both bass and treble sides. Musikraft neck with 21 frets and a chunky D profile. It’s THICC with big ass shoulders. Gravelin hot P90 wound to 9k, RS Guitarworks vintage Jr wiring kit. Top loader 3 barrel half bridge. That’s it. Straight forward and built to rock. It’s got a temporary nut on it right now so I’ll need to replace it and drill for strap buttons. But, it’s playable and it sounds pretty killer after the first 30 seconds of testing. 13 Quote

Jeff R Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Very cool piece, love the wood choice! I actually wrapped up our first Carondelet "Esquire Junior" axe yesterday, I will share it in a different thread next week after folks have fully enjoyed this thread. Great job! 6 Quote

BoogieMKIIA Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Nice! Maybe add a red “wax” Maker’s Mark seal on the body? A hide away flask? 2 Quote

In fact, I saw a guy on the intrarwebs a while back who was making these, and he built in a compartment for a flask. Quote
