I'm going deep on this one. The "Winner" gets dinner at their favorite chain restaurant on me!

Okay.  I wax nostalgic most of the time.  I'm on the back nine to be sure (62 years old).  And there's one guitar, albeit insignificant, that I cannot find or identify.

Ibanez made a guitar in the mid to late eighties that had three small push buttons to control the electronics.  Very similar to the Jackson Soloist.  Nice high-end RG inlays (think Soloist again).  It was silver sparkle.  It was H/S/H.  I remember selling it to get the dough to purchase a car for my wife.  Back when money was tight.

Help, and win dinner.  It had the obligatory "Floyd" too.

Ibanez Pro Line, yes. Here's a 2550 model that looks like what you described. That same button-switching was also used on some of the higher end Roadsters as well as early issue RG.

Too bad about the guitar.

I hope you still have the wife… 😁

Thirty seven years.  She tolerates me...

Mine was H/S/H.  That is the switching system.  I think I had the "early RG".  Any idea the model number?  Dinner is on the line!

How’s the car holding up?

Hit from behind soon after the purchase.  Bent the frame.  Total loss.  Part of why I'm waxing nostalgic and want a clean example of the guitar.  It's complicated...

IIRC, Hoshino was changing up models every few months from 1985-1987.5 and what you're describing would have fit into the ~1986 PL2550+ range.  The 2660 was the hard-to-find Rhoads V copy. Knowing that Ibanez was making artist guitars and one-offs in Hollywood (and in Pennsylvania, I think) at that time, I wonder if yours even had a catalog model number.

I think you're on to something.  I kept meticulous records back then as I was in the business of buying and selling back then (my side hustle when I was an electrical engineer).  I didn't write down a model number.  And it was an expensive guitar (paid $800 back then).  Don't have a copy of the purchase receipt. Hmm.

Your description of it reminds me of the kind of thing that a sales rep would have carried around in their car.  I know this was not the same for all manufacturers, but I remember retail store operators telling me that some reps typically had at least 1 or 2 pieces they carried around that were pre-production or one-offs.

My '91 Fender HRR Strat is one of those one-off sales rep mules.  CAR finish, solid maple neck, Kahler Steeler, and factory EMG SA/SA/85.  MIJ with the sculpted heel.  Truly an odd duck.

So you kept meticulous records, except for the model number and a copy of the  receipt.
Got it.
At least people don’t rely on you to manage their money.  Oh wait…

Heh.

Set your Reverb and Google search for Ibanez ProLine and keep an eye on the results. Eventually a HSH will pop up! Donate the "dinner" to a local animal shelter of your choice.
