Montelovesco Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) I admit: I am a sucker for old tech (some may call it vintage tech). Manual lenses, analog film, old ipods - you name it, IO am all in. Lately I fell in the MiniDisc rabbit hole. As a teenager i used a walkman (like everybody else, I guess), and when the CD and the portables showed up, I switched over. In theses days I passed on the MD, mainly for financial reasons. Now I got myself a portable and a MD deck and I am starting to rediscovering the joy of mixtapes and the independence of the streaming services, even if it means some effort to get your faves on MD. One the other hand you rediscover your CD library again - if you till have one. Anybody else here using MDs? Edited November 4, 2024 by Montelovesco 1 Quote
mathman Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I am still using and iPod classic in my car. Took out the spinning drive it came with and replaced with a SD card. Set up multiple playlists and control with the car stereo. 3 Quote
velorush Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) I have (in my desk drawer) a pristine Sony Discman with 12v cigarette lighter power adapter and cassette deck adapter. It still works great but, though I no longer own any CDs, I cannot bring myself to get rid of it. ETA: never had a mini disc. IIRC it was way out of my price range at the time they were in popular use. Edited November 4, 2024 by velorush 2 Quote

alantig Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Minidisc? What kind of future scape is this? I've still got my 8-track player. 1 3 Quote
Disturber Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 Never had a minidisk player. Still have a portable DAT player and a bunch of DAT cassettes. 3 Quote
soli'd Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I still have (an occasionally use) a component-sized MD deck wired to a receiver in my practice space. Has a CD deck on one side and MD on the other, meant for ripping between the two. 1 Quote

My classic is still doing great with the hard drive, even if it’s 15yrs old. But I found a tutorial for the iPod mini, and so I replaced the old 4GB with a 128 GB SD. Music for days now on that tiny thing…. 2 Quote
shankyboy Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 I still have my portable Sony minidisc recorder and the wonderful stereo mic that came with it. I haven't recorded with it in a long time but I got many fantastic board recordings with it from several sound gigs. I still use the stereo mic as an overhead for drum kits and it sounds great. CDs? I still have all of my CDs and am still acquiring them once in a while. My good old F-150 still has a functional disc player. I have well over 3,000 CDs. Quote

I have an 8 track minidisk recorder, a home stereo recorder player, and a car player, which I think I'm going to install in my van. I always thought they were good for a vehicle, since you didn't have to worry about scratching the disk. 2 Quote

In my 2007 Z4 I can also use the steering wheel controls so that is a bonus. It has a great sounding stereo. Perfect for the rock I like to listen to . 1 Quote
BTMN Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 (edited) I used to take mine to concerts and use a lapel microphone. At a KISS concert in Jacksonville Fl. I was using mine and got a nod and a hello Batman, I was wearing a Batman sweatshirt, from Gene as he hit the first note of Detroit Rock City. The girl next to me starts thumping me in the mic while exclaiming he said hi to you about 6-8 times. Recorded for posterity. 🤡😵💫🫣 Edited November 5, 2024 by BTMN 3 2 Quote
