crunchee Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 (edited) Apparently this news is about three years old, even though the movie's just now coming out. Any movie/TV program that portrays The Beatles in a performance environment and in the studio almost automatically gets my interest, mainly because I want to see how well (or how badly) it gets the details right/wrong. When casting the part of Ed Sullivan, this little detail seems worse than any Rutles-grade casting effort though, as in down to WTF level. But to be fair, who hasn't done a bad imitation of Ed over the last sixty years or so? I'll probably watch it anyway if/when it shows up on cable TV. Edited November 10, 2024 by crunchee 1 Quote
Steve Haynie Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Jay Leno as Ed Sullivan...? Maybe Jay is such a great actor that he can make you believe you are really seeing Ed Sullivan. Let us know. Quote

I don't think there's enough Brylcreem left in the world to be able to do that: Miles John on X: "Oh Midas Man trailer finally came out I better give it a lo- IS THAT JAY LENO AS ED SULLIVAN?!?!? https://t.co/OInEbl0Giw" / X Quote
BadgerDave Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 I suspect 90% of the audience will have no idea who Ed Sullivan is, or what he looked like. 5 Quote

RobB Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) Watched this last night. It was pretty good. “Brian” narrates the story in the first person, occasionally speaking to the camera. The actors playing the Beatles killed it, especially the John and George guys. The art direction/props were on point. The guitar gear/drums/amps were ALL accurate. Somebody was paying attention… Leno was pretty much a cameo. It didn’t work. Very poor casting choice for this role. His mannerisms, voice…NOT nailing it. Overall, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to Beatlenerds. I learned some interesting things about Epstein that I didn’t know about. Poor guy was a tortured soul, to be sure.
