Hi everyone,

Winter is here and I'm feeling nostalgic.

Once upon a time, I had a Monaco Elite. I sold it to help pay for a car. No regrets, but I do wish I had taken more pictures of it than I had, and now that my hard drive died, I have no photos of it at all. Perhaps one of you can help. I believe one of you might even have it.

It was made around 2002/2003. It had a quilt maple top, ebony fingerboard, and a cherry sunburst finish, but what set this thing apart from the get go is that it came with a pick guard. It had the pick guard when I bought it, so I don't know if it came out of the factory that way or if it was added on sometime later. Whoever bought it from me bought it with a Duncan Phat Cat in the neck position.

I'd just like to see some pictures of it again. If someone here can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I wish I could help you with the guitar, but there are computer places that can recover dead hard drive files. It's a phobia of mine, so I have half a dozen external drives  to store duplicates of everything.

Do you know of any that do that with dead phones? I took it to one of the local places but they couldn't help me. I keep my phone's too long until they're bricks and do a terrible job backing stuff up. So I lost a lot of song ideas on about 3 or 4 phones!

Or, if there's any DIY tips on getting inside to the hard drive, memory to extract info?

Most my problems stemmed from the PCB mounted power jack messing up, then not being able to charge things up. The problem is that everything in there is so micro it's not as easy to fix as an amp or guitar or appliance etc!!!

You can also buy software that can read data from damaged drives.  I mostly use Macs but the software runs on both.

if it is an external drive sometimes it is the encasement that goes bad.  Sometimes it is the drive. Put your ear to the drive and plug it in.  If you hear it spin up that means you might be able to recover something.  If it clicks and chirps and then spins back down. odds are not as good.   If you hear nothing it could be the enclosure or power supply.
