I've been getting more confident doing nut adjustments, which as you know can make a big difference in how the guitar or bass feels. Mid to lower price guitars seem to often need some 'love', I think all my Hamers haven't needed anything.
After careful measurements I've found it's helpful to use an old piece of guitar string up against the nut, so that when I reach the desired depth the file bumps into the string, and because the string is nickel or bronze plated/wound, it is unlikely to damage the file. This Ibby didn't need any lower cut in the slot, but it seems to buzz a little bit, I guessed from being cut a little flat, it seems better now with some more angle to it.
