Jimbilly Posted January 17 Posted January 17 most of my 'practicing' consists of trying to play along with whatever comes up on my Pandora stations (but not fusion, the Simon Phillips station is way too tough!). It's a fun way to practice, good for 'feel' I think. Some songs are a lot more fun than others, it's a little frustrating when some are down-tuned just a little, and I keep a Eb guitar nearby if needed. Here's a fun one on my list to play along with, I'd rate it as 'easy'. Outfield: Say It Isn't So. 3 Quote
Dutchman Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I do that too. I'll play along with the back ground music in a show or with the commercials. It keeps one's ears tuned. I'll take good ears over sheet music any day. But that's because I can't read that fast. So I go into wing it with the melody mode. 5 Quote
ChugD Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Great topic. I look for "guitar backing tracks" on YouTube. They take the guitar out so YOU are the guitarist (guitars will come back in during solos so you can be that guy too). My favorite right now: The original if you aren't familiar: 6 Quote
The Shark Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Gary Moore's Still Got the Blues. Great progression. 9 Quote
HSB0531 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I can't decide. It's always a revolving door of songs. A lot of times it's a song I haven't heard in ages that makes me want to grab the bass and play along. It's a random spontaneous thing. 4 Quote
mathman Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I like to use blues or jazz backing tracks sometimes. Lawerence Fritts Backing Tracks are fun with a wide variety of blues styles. Years ago now, I downloaded hundreds of songs as .moog files. The multi track files that are in guitar hero games. Using reaper you can open them and then mute any tracks you want and then resave the song. works great to create backing tracks. I used them when I played for the kids at school. One other cool thing is you can solo a track and then hear just the guitar or bass track to help you learn it. 5 Quote

Jakeboy Posted January 20 Posted January 20 For rhythm chops I love to play along with Marry Me by Drive-By Truckers or Brown Sugar. Oh Well too, for both lead and rhythm…and there are hundreds more…like Space Trucking. 2 Quote
Jimbilly Posted January 20 Author Posted January 20 this came up while 'jammin' last night, I was able to get a decent feel for it by the end 3 Quote
