This one hurts…  the NY Dolls were my portal from being a teenage suburban metalhead to punk rock…  The Dolls, dictators, Ramones, blondie, Johnny thunders and the heartbreakers and so many more.   It does not get better than this….  And I’ll throw kiss in that mix,  there are times when Paul Stanley was channeling David… and Aerosmith was taking notes at Max’s Kansas City

RIP  David

I was running a department store TV/Stereo/Records dept. when their first album came out. Store manager made me take it out of the display rack and put it under the counter. "Personality Crisis" rawked.

That's a Damn shame.  I liked what he did with the NY Dolls and the transition to Buster Poindexter. all Good stuff.   RIP Davey Jo.

Sad news. I saw the Dolls in 2006, with Sammi Jaffa and Steve Conte. It was absolutely great. Far from the original Dolls. But still great. Sylvain Sylvain was smiling and laughing through the whole show, looking so happy to be up there with David again. And David delivered, like the legend he was. Happy to have seen them together.

RIP.

I'll ditto this. Saw them in San Francisco around the same time and thought it was great. Glad I got to see them in any iteration as I'm just a hair too young (don't say that too often these days) to have caught them at the beginning.

They are truly great. Sammi is a legend. He's been playing with Michael Monroe on and off since 1980. He had a project going with Johnny Thunders in 1987, but nothing was ever released. He was also in Jetboy, Stronzo (with Marc Ford), Jerusalem Slim, jumped in on bass for Joan Jett in 2003 and Demolition 23 together with M Monroe. Sammi released his second solo album last year.

Never a huge fan respect what he did absolutely. I always thought it was funny, He got together with Steven Tyler on Aerosmith’s Rocks album to record tambourine’s taped to cowboy boots on a block of wood. You can hear that on Back In The Saddle and then Steven stole his wife. 😮🫣

Rest well.

Saw him at the Cleveland Agora in 1978 when he released the solo album.  For some reason I keep thinking it was reviewed by - - the Wall Street Journal.  Damn, if I put together a personal top 10 concerts list, that would probably survive the cut.  The power of that band was off the charts.  Would anyone know who was in the band back then? BTW the elpee got wavied in the back seat of my car.  Never replaced it. The Wild, the Innocent and The E Street Shuffle suffered the same fate a couple years earlier.  RIP.  Thanks for the experience and memories.
