Question

Posted

Would appreciate the forum’s awareness in these matters.

I’m interested in a used Tele at an out of state store. I understand that I can purchase/ pay for the guitar and have it shipped to my local store for inspection. Do I have to pay a shipping fee for this?

At that point, if I don’t like the guitar can I simply ask for a refund? Further, the listing page for the guitar states ‘45 day returns’. To me, this means I can take the guitar home for 6 weeks and still return it for a full refund — is that correct?

Thanks in advance, I just don’t want to get stuck with the guitar or lose money due to a misunderstanding on my end.

I believe they ship store-to-store for free. If they ship to your door and you return it to the local store, you'd be out the shipping charge.

Not sure, but the way I read it is, yeah, full refund up to 45 days.

ETA: Did I even read what I wrote? I think it makes sense now.....

Sounds about right. But watch out for the vintage clause. IIRC guitars listed as vintage only have 3 or 5 days return policy.

A while back I purchased a Jimmie Vaughan strat thru GC. SHipped to my house. I could never set relief, couldn't get the neck striaght.  Loved the neck profile. Returned it to the Sioux Falls store after about 43 days. Full refund including the shipping, no questions asked,

I did that once. Can't recall if I had to pay a shipping fee, but if so it was not very much. Didn't play it in the store, took the guitar home, returned in the next day or two and told them I didn't want it, they opened the case and looked at it for about 10 seconds and refunded me, no questions asked. I think you are wise to consider trying it at the store first in case there is something you don't like right off the bat.

Did it once. They had a lovely and hard to find David Myka guitar. The same one that had been on a high end dealer site a few years before as the "most photogenic guitar ever". I talked to the GC store that had it and they described it as beautiful with " a bit of wear". What the heck.....It arrived and the underlying beauty was there and it played well. More nice tones than any one guitar should have. But the little bit of wear was like they did a relic job by leaving it in an uninsulated outhouse in Montana for 3 years. Just a total mess. Damn shame.

Found out after the fact it had been bought and returned a few times before.

If I wanted a beater, and got it for a bit less, maybe.....But I had been lucky enough to snag David's companion guitar....Not as pretty woods, but a nice koa top, korina body and cocobolo neck. Same switching options, etc. So hardly necessary. Went back the next day. They looked inside the case, verified it was the same guitar and processed the refund.

FWIW, I think the only builders I would sign on with these days would be Myka and Shishkov. I have enjoyed the builds and conversations with each of them. Since neither is booking new builds, I guess my bank account is safe.....Unless something perfect pops up used.....

Pictures from before it took a wrong turn or two.....

ETA.....I THINK this one actually did belong to someone else here before it took a bad turn somewhere else.
