LucSulla Posted March 23 Posted March 23 All of the sudden, I can just play the shit out of a Stratocaster. And I don't mean a super strat. I mean, specifically, a plain old American standard strat with single coils. I've been playing them a lot around the house lately, and at band practice this afternoon, the guys were like, "What is all of that? Have you been woodshedding a new style or something." No! No I haven't! For some reason, I just play them a lot differently than a LP style guitar, and it's pretty rad. I don't shred as much, but the legato phrasing I like along with my sparse knowledge of chickin pickin just comes together way differently. Who even am I now? 10 1 Quote
Feynman Posted March 23 Posted March 23 You've done it! This is peak guitar development. So many fight it, but we must eventually all become Stratocaster people. Praise Leo. Buy another one. 2 5 Quote

I think a different instrument will make you play differently, whether it's the tone, or the neck dimensions, or the way it sits. I had a Fender Walnut Elite II bass with the wider neck. It measured 1-3/4" at the nut and the neck profile felt slim & wide, especially at the higher frets. The sound of the walnut body/neck, and the feel of the wider radius made me play differently compared to a standard P-bass. Edited March 25 by HSB0531 3 Quote

I guess it could be the compound radius neck on the Charvels too, which are objectively different. The vibe feels far more different than it should. Quote

Like the difference between a car and a truck? You betcha! I've been a died-in-the-wool Strat guy since 1986, even after I realized I would never be SRV! 🤔 1 Quote
Dutchman Posted March 25 Posted March 25 For me it's the guitar scale. I would play a 24 3/4 scale faster cuz I could. The Fender scale just sounds better on bends and more melodic passes. Just my 2pennys worth! Quote
Hackubus Posted March 25 Posted March 25 It's kinda like that for me too. But God, I don't wanna play any kinda Stratocaster, ever. I did a setup on a Squier strat a few days ago, and started farting around with what few licks I knew from EJ's Cliffs Of Dover, and by crackee....I managed to play that danged song all the way up to the solo in a manner that actually impressed me somewhat. On my Gibsons...I only manage to get a few bars in before Clam City. 3 Quote
