Many of us went to school on a yellow school bus. 1 2 Quote

However, someone around here hotrodded a short school bus into a drag car. In the summer it will be out on the road. 1 Quote
Brooks Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I've had decent luck w/ FB Marketplace, but I pepper my ads w/ NO TRADES/LOCAL MEET ONLY/CASH ONLY Sometimes I put it several times, NO TRADES! NO TRADES! NO TRADES! hahaa No shows can be a problem, so I always tell them to meet me at the local Food Lion, which shares a parking lot w/ the liquor store. If they don't show I can always do some shopping so its not a wasted trip. 2 3 Quote

When selling a bicycle, I always put the size in the header and as the first line of the text, I used to put the size any old place in the description, but no one reads the full text of the ads and I would often get a response asking about the size ("it's right there in the text!"). I could probably 'hide' damage by just describing it a few lines into the description. I often put 'firm' next to the price, which hardly anyone regards as real, but I think it cuts down on some of the ridiculous lowball offers. 1 Quote

No doubt coming to a property tax bill in the near future. If they hike the gas tax like planned, they will likely get their 4% back out of me like that. 2 1 Quote

I've lived in states with no income tax and the state will find ways to get their money! 1 Quote
currypowder Posted April 4 Posted April 4 If you think selling is difficult on FB or Craigslist, try offering something for free. That really brings out the crackpots. 4 2 Quote

alantig Posted April 4 Posted April 4 1 hour ago, topekatj said: See the curb? Take the item to curb. Done. Not always - I've seen numerous people post that they've put items out at the curb with a FREE sign on it, only for the item to sit there for days. But slap a $50 sign on it - gone overnight. My favorite was a guy who bought a new TV, packed the old one in the new box, put it on his porch, then watched on his Ring camera while someone "stole" it. 3 4 Quote
ARM OF HAMER Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Yeah the old "IS IT AVAILABLE" is a clue as to the intentions of the person asking. I have used both FB Marketplace, and Craigslist and have never had any bad issues. I have to confess they have just been local pickups as I have not shipped anything for a long time now except for my kids who both now live in Florida. [I'm in Minnesota] Had my Yamaha Weddington Custom for sale or trade over at The Gear Page for months with only a couple of Inquiries, same with FBMP and Craigslist. Lots of guitars for sale everywhere so...............I'm in no hurry. Going to a guitar show here in Eagan, Mn. at the end of the month so maybe I'll get something moving there. It's a different world out there now as far as selling trading and shipping, I will buy from sellers on Ebay but I have not sold anything on there for years. Don't even get me started on REVERB, so many friends have had issues over there. 1 Quote

Likewise, I typically have prospective local buyers meet me at a nearby Wawa ( for the uninitiated- the NE's dominant convenience store/deli/gas/grub joint- ala Sheetz, QuikTrip, 7-11, etc) In the event of a no-show or last minute change of heart, I can grab some mac n cheese or a meatball sammich. However, I will take Venmo or Paypal but ask buyer for small, good faith deposit ($25) to secure the item. 5 Quote

tommy p Posted April 7 Posted April 7 A few years ago I had a guy offer me something like $100 for a digital multi-effects I listed at $500 or so. When I said no he proceeded to message me a hundred times with all kinds of non-comparable units telling me I "had better" take his offer. I started getting smart with him and then he started CALLING through FB. Of course I never answered. Then he contacted MY WIFE through her craft business page and showed her my messages, explained to her I'm crazy (joke's on him - she already knew), and told her talking to people the way I was could get me hurt. Talk about fucking absolute RAGE. I found his home address online and was going to go down there (it was 2 hours away) and "explain" to him that he had gone too far, but luckily rational thought told me to call the local police instead. I did, and they paid him a visit, talking to me until they pulled up in front of his house. Never heard from him again. 2 1 Quote

Easier to slip it into the trash. Or try to sneak it past the Goodwill folks (who are much pickier than they used to be). 2 Quote
