mudshark Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Cheap guitars are 10 times better. I'm amazed at how good some of the guitars under $200 sound these daze. When I think of my first box, a piece-of-shit Harmony in the early '60s, I'm kind of amazed I kept playing.

marcnorth Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 weed is stronger. Yes indeed, the weed we had when I was young, wasn't worth shit... Now : Of course I never inhale... +1 I never inhale either.
Willie G. Moseley Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 +1 on cheap guitars...for beginners. The ones I first plunked on, while US-made (and are now time-warp machines for aging Boomes) were highly inferior to what a neophyte can start out on these days, and as has always been the case, if the newbie doesn't go any further than that first guitar, no big $ lost. Silvertone/Danelectros and Kay plank-like solidbodies conjure up some nostalgia, but as an inherent instrument (made to be played), a Chinese-made Squier Strat is vastly superior. And Robin guitars are "better", even though their quality has always been excellent. Formerly imported (but decent mfrs.---Chushin, ESP and Tokai), they're now made in Texas and are, IMO, the best value in smaller-manufactured, handcrafted instruments on the planet.
cloakerz Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 "the thought that 73 strats are considered "vintage" and going for well over the $250 (max) I would ever pay for one.... Hell in the 80's you couldn't give them away.... now I see them in the $2k range.... THAT is funny!! If I take a crap today and save it for 25 years will it have "mojo" ... or will it still be a piece of shit? .....I'd say even most of todays Mexi strats are made better than 90% of 70's strats..."Peso I am so there with ya. I had a 79 strat new off the shelf and I played maybe 20-30 of them before I found a good one. To consider them vintage now is a joke to me. Fenders stuff now seems real consistant compared to then.
