savethematches Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Found out Friday that my dad's colon cancer is terminal. They give him two years if he gets a colostomy; I don't know how long if he doesn't do it. Thanks for all the support on the previous thread at the old board. Can't get much better than the folks at the HFC.

Craig Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I can appreciate what you are going through, I lost an Aunt, Grandmother, and some family friends to cancer. For what it's worth, I have seen a case where they gave someone I know 1 year to live and 10 years later we still talk. Wishing you the best....
phoenix Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 My thought are with you. I hung my head all yesterday during my wifes cancer operation. Have to wait a week to see if they got all of it this time.
savethematches Posted March 1, 2005 Author Posted March 1, 2005 Phoenix,I'm sorry to hear that. Having a parent with it is bad enough, I can't even comprehend going through it with a spouse. Hope all goes well.

Nathan Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Maybe a tad late, but I'll be wishing nothing but the best for your dad. I've had to deal with this as well. Love ya.~N
Brewmaster Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I went through the same thing with my Dad. After his colostomy he got real down so be prepared for that. On the other hand they gave him a year, no more than 2, but he made it for 5. The important thing is to treasure the time you have left together and make the most of it.
savethematches Posted March 2, 2005 Author Posted March 2, 2005 Here's a link to the song I wrote about my dad a while back. It's partly about me, too. The basic story is that some prick was intimidating my aunt and uncle down in Texas back when I was about 10 years old. We happened to be down there visiting at the time, so Dad stepped up and told the guy to back off because he was messing with the meanest sumbitch in Illinois. Mr. Prick backed off pretty quickly and I never forgot seeing my dad stand up for our family. Twenty years later, a song came out of my head. Go figure. No Hamers involved, though. I was temporarily parted with my 86 TLE at the time this was recorded. I used a new Kramer Striker and Nightrider for all but the very last lead, which was done on an acrylic Samick, a Jackson clone w/EMG's. Guitars were recorded direct through a Boss GT-6 or GT-5, I forget which.Edited to correct link.www.soundclick.com/martygibsonGo to Music Page and scroll down to The Meanest.
Bass Guy Dave Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Sorry to hear about these challenges... May you all be strengthened and your love for each other grow stronger through this time. We're praying this time might be as peaceful as possible for you.Best Wishes
