BCR Greg Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 UPSIZE! Greg, you say that like you're PROUD I am. I sound better and I am not exhausted before the gig. Come see us sometime and you'll understand. Anyone that can't get a great house sound with a T60 isn't trying.
Tokyo Tapes Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Downsizing? what is that? I actually own more amps now than ever have. My next purchase looks like it's going to be the new 150 watt Engl Invader
Stokesdead Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 yeah I read your post wrong. Im an idiot.Note to self: shutup~Chris Stokes
BCR Greg Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Yeah, Shut up, Chris.Loser.(Shakes head and spits on floor)

Hamer95USA Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Hey folks, I went from using a rack systems with either 2x12 or 4x12 cabs down to either my Marshall 6101 1x12 combo/Replifex effects unit, modded ADA MP-1/Replifex effects unit/Mesa Boogie Simul-Satellite combo amp or my Omega Amps modded Hot Rod Deluxe/ various effects pedals. I went backwards a bit and bought the Rocktron Vendetta amp head from Kurtsstuff back in June. Guitar George

serial Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I went from a JCM800 2203 1/2 stack to a Tech 21 T60 and then slightly up to my Duoverb 1/2 stack and recently picked up a Rocktron Replitone combo. Because I don't have an original thought and have been taking a lot of ribbing on this forum and in person for being a solid state guy, I'm convinced that I need to go back to a Marshall 1/2 stack, if only for "the look".
mattb Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I have some small amps and some higher wattage. I like to have the option. Although, I always gig with my MESA MKIV and Avatar 2X12.
sirDaniel Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 to me, someone with solid state behind them has...A.L.S.

Bluesking Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I did the opposite and picked this up last night:Voodoo V PlexNow, I need a killer 2x12 cab to go with it. If anyone has one for sale, let me know.I think that this amp along with the BCR Jr will finally get me to "the tone".
serial Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 SirD, actually the affliction of which you speak is "ZMV". ZeroMojoVibe. I for one am proud to be so diseased.

Bluesking Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Greg, Any recommendations for a cab for the V Plex? I was thinking of a 2x12 with 1 Greenback and a Vintage 30....
silentman Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I've downsized, but not simplified. I've gone from a Boogie MK IV combo and (2X) 4x12 and/or (2X) 1X12 Thieles, down to a rack setup - with a Triaxis, G-Force, Graphic EQ, Carvin 50w stereo power amp, and the (2X) Thieles. Still bad-ass, but a lot smaller. Great minds think alike. I'm going to running a Marshall JMP1 into a Gforce (when it gets here from Jaye), ADA Power amp and 2 Mesa Theiles. Right now I use a Mesa F30 w/ 1 theile, but I need something a little more fllexible, tonewise.

Steve, Just put the Marshall stack behind you, and sidewash what you are REALLY playing through ; ) I used to play a stereo setup with 2 Marshall Silver Jubilee heads and 2 4-12 cabinets, a ten space rack, and a big pedalboard. I'm down to a 1-12 H+K Switchblade combo, a four space rack, and pedalboard that is just big enough for a G-System and a few pedals.
BCR Greg Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I think a distinction has to be placed here.Banging around in the house, I can play any of my Marshalls or vintage Fenders or the odd Vox. For sheer auditory pleasure, blasting a pile of 4x12 cabs is fun as hell.BUTThose of us actually gigging have to use tools. Our amps must be able to provide us with the needed tones with a minimum of fuss. When I was on the road with Citizen Cain, 3 Marshall heads and 9 cabs did the trick quite nicely. Nowadays, my T60 direct into the PA gives me what I need. I have to have several different tones available NOW, since we don't use set lists. If I were out with another Hard Rock act, I would dust off the Marshalls, probably. I'd still use the T60, tho.Anyone that has seen Grumpy Old Men can attest to the effectiveness of out T60s. Stevie and I both run them direct and we couldn't be more different guitarists. TOTALLY different tone packages. And he's GOOD!

It was probably me.I think there needs to be a GOM/HFC night booked out far enough that Paul and I (maybe CraigS too?) can make the road trip. I think that would be a blast!
FunkyE9th Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 I used to gig with a 4x12 cab and a rack. Now I'm using a Reverend Kingsnake set to 20W. I like being able to go to a gig with guitar on my back, amp on my right hand and pedal board on my left. One trip from the car to the stage.-FunkyE9th

BigBob Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 With the exception of a 68 Princeton Reverb with all RCA tubes, modded for 18-20 watts and a 12 inch Weber, which produces some of the most beautiful tones BTW, Ive stayed in the 40-50 watt area but changed to amps that get good OD tones at lower volumes. Switching from a Hot Rod Deluxe to a Traynor YCV40 started me on that path, and of course purchasing my first Hamer (96 Artist Custom) about a year ago didn't hurt any...
