teleman Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I know that somebody here was at NAMM and spent some time with a Talledaga. How about an initial report on it?
salem Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I would like to know how the pickup selections work. What combinations, settings, etc.
tafkathundernotes Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 ....and if you can get it with a Standard headstock. And boomers. Gotta' have boomers.
cmatthes Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 ....and if you can get it with a Standard headstock. And boomers. Gotta' have boomers. Already asked. Already a "no"! I think they want to preserve the integrity of the design before monkeying around with the formula. I'm anxiously waiting for one to turn up at my local dealer so I can take the afternoon off and check it out!
BLuesBuster Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 This is the one (apparently the only one) that was at the NAMM. I didn't get a chance to plug it in so all i can say is abou the look and feel. Exceptionally well made guitar, I've always had a soft spot for that body shape. Typical Hamer neck, on the fat side but not baseball-bat overdone. I loved the dots with the V at the 12th fret inlays. The only thing that seemed out of place was the headstock. I understand that it's part of the Hamer look, but that shape seemed too big and wide on the Talladega. The guitar seemed to be somewhat neck heavy too, probably due to all the mass from the headstock. The neck joint is great, that dreaded shelf from the Monaco is gone. There's quite a few similar shape guitars that I've seen, here's a couple that I liked: A few other interesting happenings from last weekend:
BCR Greg Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 That Talladega is ours, and it's for sale. The pickups are unique, the bridge pup is similar to a Tele, with a steel baseplate and alnico 5 slugs. The neck pickup is more like a P-90, with slug poles and alnico 5 magnet underneath. The switching is as follows...All the way back, bridge pup. Position two, both in parallel(like a regular Tele)Position three, Neck onlyPosition four, both in series(skronk!)This is only the second one made, and it's one badass guitar. I was skeptical until I played it. Jol told me a few days before the show that the neck was patterned after his 56 Strat, and it feels JUST LIKE it. Neat guitar, lots of sonic possibilities.AND, it has a sustain block, and we all know that those are killer bridges.
burningyen Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Surprising that positions 3 and 4 weren't reversed. Still, can't wait to check one out!
salem Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Surprising that positions 3 and 4 weren't reversed. Still, can't wait to check one out!Yea, position 4 should be neck only. That does not make sense at all.
BCR Greg Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Italian guitars by the name of Cloe, I believe.
Disturber Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 I wonder where that 3 x minihumbuckered Artist Korina is going? Greg, are you laying your hands on that one as well?
discountsounds Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Or the Triple P-90 Standard with the single victory inlay. Drool!
Disturber Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Or the Triple P-90 Standard with the single victory inlay. Drool! Yeah, can someone remove that funny looking guy with the stupid shirt so we can have a better look.
Guest Meshuggah Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Funny that the Framus headstock looks quite alright. Will they make them with a wraptail bridge?(Currently replacing sustain blocks in my mythology)Wait for it..........NO!Know any Framus dealers anyone?
BCR Greg Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 If you want that guitar with a wraparound...... Hamer will not be making changes to the basic platform for this year, at least. I tried.
kizanski Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 If you want that guitar with a wraparound...... OOfff! Where's the fish?
kizanski Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 That's a MAMMAL, not a fish...Exactly...I was asking about the fish.
MCChris Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 Surprising that positions 3 and 4 weren't reversed. Still, can't wait to check one out!Yea, position 4 should be neck only. That does not make sense at all.Wouldn't be a Hamer if there wasn't something confounding about it.
jisham Posted January 28, 2007 Posted January 28, 2007 Are regular humbuckers a direct replacement for the stock pickups in the Talledega?
