"I missed the half-time show and regret it. I haven't watched the Super Bowl in years. I was

at work today and my co-worker was bitching about Prince playing the half-time gig. He is only

22 and i understand in a way because Purple Rain was before his time. But still,it couldn't have

been worse than Justin Timberlake. I am convinced that the present generation couldn't hear

the difference between a car crash and a rap show and discern the difference"

born in 1984 here, prince might have been before my time as well as a lot of other greats but that doesnt keep me from liking his music! sorry your coworker is a tool but some of us deserve a little more credit!

A little more to the story, from "the internet:

Apparently there was a feud between Prince & Grohl...

Grohl got permission to record several Prince songs from Warner Brothers. He (Prince) wasn't into it because Grohl never asked him directly. Prince said Grohl should write his own songs. Grohl said sorry I'm just a huge Prince fan and Prince's response was performing "Best of You" tonight at the Superbowl.

The Foo Fighters version of "Darling Nikki" is on the "Have it All" single. So, they put out at least one Prince song.

And yeah, Prince was pretty awesome Sunday night. Anyone know what amp he was using?

now is a perfect time to get that purple HAMER out for raffle.

Strike while the fire is hot.

Yes !! Did anyone else notice that Strat was the exact same configuration - the 2 white EMGs, 1 HB, 1 single

and a floyd ???

Makes you wonder if Prince rejected the Hamer because the color was "too obvious."

Some of the spooks on other message boards have been commenting all day about audible pitch correction during Joel's performance, but I haven't heard it myself to confirm.

Pretty obvious to me that there was little or no pitch correction-he had some flat-assed notes in there for sure, but it was refreshing to hear someone sing the Anthem the way it was written, not taking creative liberties with it and doing a hip-hop segment in the middle of it or adding wayyyy tooo-uh-oo-uh-oo-uh-oooo much vibrato on notes like so many of these AI wannabes do today.

I agree. I thought it was a moving rendition and the piano accompaniment was fresh and powerful.

Don't know about the amp, but I heard he was using a Talent Boost pedal.

Ducking, and running for cover.

I did notice that and pointed it out to my wife, who replied with a thoughtful "Hmmmm".

I'm curious as to what Wah pedal he uses.

...and where to get one of those Talent Boosts as well.

Prince's Black Album is a fantastic document of how to play funk rock. It seems weird that he i smost known for Purple Rain....

Don't dig his persona per se, but the guy can play.

I remember back in 1984 when I was in the Army, stationed in Monterey, CA the local movie theatre played Purple Rain for almost a year. It was almost like Rocky Horror.

I left the Monterey Bay area in 1985. Must have just missed you! I was born at Fort Ord.

Lived in Salinas, Marina, Pacific Grove and out near Castroville during the 20 + yrs out there.

FYI: There was a big fire on Alvarado street today - 100 firefighters responded. +100 yr old building.

I'm sure that Microcube was on battery power in the rain.

(think of what a great ad that would make)
