ZR Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 That one guitarist, I think his name is Salem, forget the band...when he plays above the 15th fret on the high E string on his TAG cobra, the note seems to "bloom" into a louder, shrill ear-piercing sound. This happens regardless of his pickup setting or volume level. It makes me go Whoa. I think his stage name is Screech.
mathman Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Early on it probably was Pink Floyd Wish you were Here and Animals, and Jethrol Tull. Minstrial in the Gallery. For bass it had to first be Tom Petersson and the the opening to Running with the Devil - Van Halen.
acb Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Jimmy Page -- Heartbreaker. The track is a dictionary of '59LP tones at its best. First song our circle of friends cranked up and destroyed a few stereo speakers.
Brooks Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Cold Gin - Alive Iyep, ALIVE. also DRESSED TO KILL, & PARANOID (esp "faries wear boots" & "war pigs"). great hard rawk tones.as a youngster i also loved the music of zep, jimi, lizzy, and rush, but more for tunes/playing.
MCChris Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Probably the intro to the Hollies' "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" that was on a K-Tel compilation album my mom bought for me.
lord nelson Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 First time I plugged into a Diezel Herbert and hit the E chord!
MTM105 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Al DiMeola's Elegant Gypsy.I've experienced simulated levitation while playing along with it.Angus' lead on Shook Me All Night Long. I think Angus gets too much credit for their tone, whereas Malcom plays hollow body with 13 gauge strings.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_in_BlackHey Joe on Hendrix's Live at Monterey. Very underrated album. Turned music on it's head.Skynyrd T for Texas One More From the Road.Neil Young Southern Man. Pushes a 30 W Fender to the max.Clapton's Just One Night. Bob Dylan Live at Budakon.Music produced during the 70's. Call me old school. I did not appreciate Metallica till I received a free ticket to drive to the Black Album concert.

Celtic_Bill Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 The Yardbirds "Shapes of Things"Keef's crunchy acoustic on "Jumpin' Jack Flash"Early Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac bloozeIntro rhythm guitar on Skynyrd's "Call Me The Breeze"Clapton w/Bluesbreakers.
Rockola Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 LZ - Heartbreak was a pretty heavy memory, but the first would be when I bought La Grange on 45. After about 4 repeats, I flipped it over and played Just Got Paid. That was my first 'whoa', first air guitar and the first time a parent knocked on the door asking me to turn it down. Jackpot!S.
Jack C Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 The guitar part in We Will Rock You was probably the first time I really paid attention to the guitar tone. It was just so badass sounding. Still is.
kurtsstuff Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 I remember as if it were yesterday....1978 High School art class senior year...The opening riff to "you really got me"..not knowing it was Van Halen and thinking the Kinks did one hell of a remake...Then my buddy informed of who it was......Damn....almost 30 years ago....I'm sooo old!!!!!! lol!!
Guest Meshuggah Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Steve Kimock through that Custom Two Rock and tone Tubbys, and not so long ago at that. Before that it was mostly melody.
Lou Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Ten years after - "I'd Love to change the World". A little later was "Still Got the Blues" Gary Moore.also Lynyrd Skynyrd's crunch guitar on "Saturday Night Special"
kizanski Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Well, the first time I heard my older brother rip a tremendous fart in our school's auditorium, I must say I was quite impressed. The man had natural tone. You can't teach that kind of tone...

Dutchman Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 The first time I heard Danny Cedrone play the solo on Rock around the Clock for Bill Haley and the Comets. Obviously a recorded version other wise I'd be to old to breath.I still think it is one of the coolest guitar solo's ever.......Followed by some of Chet Atkins work. Here's some of his work, obviously the band was syncing to a tape.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdRaQZCOEf4 Check out the ride on Hot Dog Buddy Buddy.....Pure 1950's distortion on a ride yeehaw!!!!!
formula73 Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 It's lost a lot of it's magic for me, but when I first heard Dime on Vulgar, I think I peed my pants a little bit. BAHROOOTAL.
Hamertoe Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Day Tripper. I was 5 but it moved me in a way that set the stage for my first guitar lessons.
