murkat Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 okay...... I never liked the beach boys anyway.
duncans Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 So tel me, what do you really think about him? LOL, hillarious.
Willie G. Moseley Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 IIRC, Love is an ordained minister for some religious group, albeit not a traditional Judeo-Christian organization...and I don't think it's TM-related, either. Accordingly, one wonders if he could perform an exorcism ON HIMSELF if he chose to do so....
thecajunboy Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Let's see,Snakes, Mustard,and oh yeah, Mike Love.
Guest JackButler Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 okay...... I never liked the beach boys anyway.or John Stamos
Guest pirateflynn Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Well, PET SOUNDS and the related music by Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys is some of my favorite. I remember when Brian Wilson had just resurfaced after years in near isolation. He had lost legal control of his assets and even his person, I believe. I saw him in an interview where he infered that Mike Love was instrumental in the action against him, claiming that he couldn't be trusted to make any of his own decsions. He went on to say that after years of TM Mike Love truly believes that he can levitate ...... LEVITATE ..... "and they call me crazy!"
JohnnyB Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Well, PET SOUNDS and the related music by Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys is some of my favorite. "and they call me crazy!"Yeah. Mike Love was the nemesis to Brian Wilson's genius. Whereas Lennon and McCartney had each other for collaborative songwriting, and the Beatles had George Martin to produce them and help put their musical visions on vinyl, Brian Wilson only had himself. He wrote the songs, arranged them, arranged the vocals, and produced the recording sessions and albums. But instead of an advocate like George Martin to help him through it, he had to contend with his dad, Murray Wilson, and 1st cousin douchebag Mike Love, who constantly screamed at him to "not fuck with the formula, Brian," which meant surf, cars, and girls. Love HATED and fought against what Brian did to make Pet Sounds, would not cooperate unless he changed and rewrote Good Vibrations, and, yes, wrested control of the Beach Boys away from Brian. And yet, Good Vibrations was the Beach Boys' first number one hit and the biggest hit of 1966. Yet for all that, Mike Love spent a great part of his life discrediting Brian Wilson, the genius behind the Beach Boys and the visionary who could have kept them at the vanguard of pop music instead of a nostalgia act.A pity that the obstacles Mike Love put in front of Brian delayed the "Smile!" tour and album by 37 years, and yet, when it finally came out, it was still a worthwhile concert and album. If Brian had had some cooperation to put Smile out on schedule, it would have given Sgt. Peppers a run for best rock album of 1967.
Sitamoia50 Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 okay...... I never liked the beach boys anyway. Wow!, how can you not like or at least appreciate "The Beach Boys". I mean the harmonies alone..... p.s. sorry for chiming in like that. You just dont hear that very much about someone not liking The Beach Boys. Caught me off-gaurd.
murkat Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I'm just being honest. It didnt help when I was a kid and my younger brother would constantly spin BB's 24/7 every wakeing moment..... that and the 4 Seasons......... bad
BCR Greg Posted February 22, 2007 Author Posted February 22, 2007 I admire the talent but hate the music.There. I said it.I feel better.F@ck Mike Love and the horse he rode in on. He's clearly a steaming pile.
Steve Haynie Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Didn't Mike Love marry a friend's daughter just to spite him?
MCChris Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 okay...... I never liked the beach boys anyway. Wow!, how can you not like or at least appreciate "The Beach Boys". I mean the harmonies alone..... p.s. sorry for chiming in like that. You just dont hear that very much about someone not liking The Beach Boys. Caught me off-gaurd.Add me to the list of people who flat-out don't get the Beach Boys, except for "Good Vibrations." If the "Pet Sounds"/"Smile" stuff sounds like that song, then I guess I should give it a listen, although I doubt I ever will.
Brewmaster Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I must confess I did like "Help Me Rhonda" and "Good Vibrations" when they were first released. My only excuse is I was a teeny booper at the time. Mike Love is the lowest form of pond scum. All those years of TM and he is still a total failure as a human being.

If the "Pet Sounds"/"Smile" stuff sounds like that song, then I guess I should give it a listen, although I doubt I ever will.Nothing sounds like Good Vibrations, but Pet Sounds is just flat out a great rock record. It doesn't really sound like anything...it stands on its own. This was Brian Wilson stretching to the edges of his creative abilities, and at his peak he had few peers. I was never a Beach Boys fan (liked the singles but never bought anything) until a few years ago a friend convinced me to get a copy of Pet Sounds. Now it is easily in my top 10.I like the new Smile album too, but it does sound a little out of its time.-Jonathan
kurtsstuff Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 Mike Love was not even needed and the one and only reason he had anything to do with the Beach Boys is because he was family (Dads idea...not Brians) The guy has ZERO talent, and if he wasn't related to the Wilsons....he'd probably be a fry machine supervisor at McDonalds, Not that there's anything wrong with that! hehe....

I mean the harmonies alone..... p.s. sorry for chiming in like that. You just dont hear that very much about someone not liking The Beach Boys. Caught me off-gaurd. Having said that, i am not a Mike Love fan either (he was and im sure will always be an unappreciative asshole).I admire the talent but hate the music.There. I said it.I feel better.F@ck Mike Love and the horse he rode in on. He's clearly a steaming pile. That is my point. You may not particularly like them but you can at least see and admire or appreciate what makes them a very influential band. I mean c'mon just look at the deep meanings in the songs and the message they were tryin to convey...................Cars and surfin' are bitchin' and Chicks rule! LOL!!!!
El Kabong Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 The Beach Boys music sounds better as muzak.
frankthomson Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 until now, i was unaware....but i agree w/ Bobby Hill....and you guys hate *Blackie*? (Think General Hospital)shit,. now that we're going there, who remembers *Dark Shadows*?Barnabas Collins, or Angelique.....<<<<OUCH!
Aceldama Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I didn't like the Beach Boys either until someone lent me a copy of Pet Sounds. "God Only Knows" is one of my top ten favorite songs.
pesocaster Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 Mike Love = Douchebag all that needs to be said.............

Peppers.
