MCChris Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Do you think this might get pulled by ebay because there is other brand names listed in the heading? That would suck!More likely it'll get pulled as a result of some under-the-radar chicanery by Fung.

Steve Haynie Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 OK, so who is Fung? and whats the story?Peter Fung is a well known Hamer collector who posts on this message board. He is really a nice guy, but everyone likes to make jokes about him.
Rechts Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 OK, so who is Fung? and whats the story? Peter Fung is a well known Hamer collector who posts on this message board. He is really a nice guy, but everyone likes to make jokes about him. Peter's Hamer collection is extensive and filled with some of the coolest rare models that the company ever produced, many of them "one-offs" constructed for various rock icons of the day. It was rumored for years that he had built a time machine so he could go back and snag them all. Of course, this security video snapshot seemed to refute his denials of that absurd accusation. Look closely, and you can see the gun in his hand, as well as a terrified Sherman entering revealing coordinates into the Wayback machine's computer. Peter is an elusive fellow. The exploits of SNL's "Bill Brasky" were copied right out of Peter's bio, and many of those things you hear on the internet about Chuck Norris' superpowers are actual Fung characteristics.
seeker Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 OK, so who is Fung? and whats the story?Peter Fung is a well known Hamer collector who posts on this message board. He is really a nice guy, but everyone likes to make jokes about him.Because he has the most extensive and awesome Hamer collection. He's always seemed to be a great guy too.Over the years there have been a number of ebay auctions of especially fine Hamers (such as this one) that have "ended early" with the item "no longer for sale". Urban myth is that someone offered a price (outside the ebay auction) the seller couldn't refuse. IMHO, that myth is at least partially true; the pattern has been repeated too many times to be otherwise. Who, or whom, it is has always been a matter of debate. Usually those guitars are never seen again.
seeker Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Prototype Special? What's the story on that one, a 2004? I'm interested if you get your prize!
ZR Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Peter is a cool dude that puts his money where his mouth is and I think that makes ppl jealous at times. I say rock on!
esquared Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 Very cool.So have we ever seen any pictures of said collection?

I have seen these albums...good thing they are plastic.( drool...and other bodily fluids wipe right off!)Fung is an extremely nice guy, better than most I tell ya.

Guest JackButler Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Very cool.So have we ever seen any pictures of said collection? He carries them in a breifcase made of human skulls, which is always handcuffed to his wrist.Ed,Isn't that the one with the lining made out of freshly bludeoned baby seal and the handle's wrapped in leather made outta that guy Pete had us skin alive last time when we had to be his muscle at that meeting over in the Japanese embassy building?Remember.. that guy Yamamoto low balled Pete with $350 in half 20 dollar bills and a gross of sharkfin picks.. Peter snapped and bit the guy's wife's nose right off her face...I still have nights where I can't sleep thinking about that.
Guest cruster Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 ...Isn't that the one with the lining made out of freshly bludeoned baby seal and the handle's wrapped in leather made outta that guy Pete had us skin alive...I heard he had two of those. Sold one to a collector in Japan.(Rechts, you still crack me up.)
hamerboy_ Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Hey Austin, was that you that snagged the Diablo II with the ebony board? Whichever Diablo your letting go, please let me know.-Bobby
atquinn Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 Hey Austin, was that you that snagged the Diablo II with the ebony board? Whichever Diablo your letting go, please let me know. -Bobby Yes it was. And of course, the day it arrived, the Cali auction started . It's a very cool guitar with some neat custom options (ebony fretboard and a satin finish neck). At any rate, if I need to sell it, I'll keep you in mind. - Austin
Feynman Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Atquinn,You might want to snag this, too, and it's cheap...Cali Ad - $3
serial Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Peter is aces. Although he is quite modest about his Hamer (and other brands) knowledge, it is indeed vast. I've had the pleasure of knowing Peter since the very early days of the board.
AdmiralB Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Anyone remember how much this one went for on ebay a few years back?? It's the only other one I've seen on there. I happen to like it the best of the two.Not the same thing. That one, and the red/orange one posted elsewhere in this thread, are maple bodies. The current auction is a mahogany body with a maple top. I'm thinking that's a one-off, I've never heard of maple-topped Calis before. Probably more rare, but less expensive "back then".
serial Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 I've seen one or two maple topped Calis before, but it's been a LONG time. There was also a Chaparral with a carved maple top that was done (not bound like the more common veneered top Chap). This one is also a SET NECK which makes it stupid rare and cool.
