seeker Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Saw Wolfmother at the 930 Club in DC last night. WAGA, AWESOME!!! RAWKING!! It was sold out, with the packed place really into it. The "new" 930 club is much, much bigger than any of it's previous locations. They're in the middle of a US tour, with a good number of shows sold out. See em if you can. These guys are the real deal. Love their album, and even better, a Great Live Band. Check them out: Wolfmother Website. You can hear their entire album if you click the play button at the top of the main menu screen. For those who haven't heard them, you might have seen the Rockstar II animated commercial. That's them (playing Woman, slightly rearranged).
Steve Haynie Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I never heard these guys until I checked out the website. I think I am going to have to buy an album!
princeofdarkness56 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 Have had the cd for a few months. They are pretty good. Riff rockers.
Jeff R Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 They sound to my ear like a cross between oldskool Sabbath and oldskool Zeppelin. Love the disc and I'd love to see them live.

Love the disc and I'd love to see them live. That and some hard rockers that I can't quite put my finger on. It's fitting that Wolfmother played Communication Breakdown at Zeps induction to the UK RnR Hall of Fame awards a few months back.
Bruiser Brody Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I remember seeing them on some local and horribly produced cable access show a few years ago and thought they were great (i don't own their album). Seems they've blown up now and everyone knows 'em! Good for them!
elduave Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 This was taken when I played bass for them. Of course, the minute they sacked me in favor of another skinny dude, they hit the big time.
earachemyeye Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 They kick ass IMHO. Shades of Jon Lord and his Hammond through the Marshall but with a more agressive edge to the guitar parts. I also like the slight breakup on the vocals in "Joker and the Thief".Joe
princeofdarkness56 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Besides the Sabbath influence, I also hear shades of Deep Purple and on one song a little bit of Jethro Tull.
seeker Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 Western North Carolinians, Wolfmother will be in your area, at the Orange Peel in Asheville on Friday night. They're not sold out yet. They're a Blast!
KH Guitar Freak Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Lacks solos though...And btw, once when they were interviewed about them and Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin influencing their music, they said they've never heard of them before...

So what? You don't have to have solos to be a good band. Actually there are a couple, you just gotta listen to the entire album. Live he does more. Admittedly, his definitely bluesy influenced, and not a shredder. As to not hearing BS and LZ, think they were being sarcastic. Read many other interviews that included them (and Beatles/Doors as well as a bunch of 80s stuff) amongst their listenings.
edgar_allan_poe Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Saw the live video on TV and was unimpressed. Can't recall what the song was but I just didn't dig it. I did note a heavy Sabbath and Zep influence though. Still, the tune I heard just didn't do it for me. I'll check out some more stuff from them and give them another shot though.
